1. Pandering to the fundies
Looks like the Republicans are getting desperate. I hope there's not a single one of them left serving in the Senate or House of Delegates after this November.

2. What I find interesting

Is that some of these bills are coming from the Eastern Panhandle, which is probably becoming the most progressive area of the state due to its proximity to D.C. I know a lot of friends born, raised, and educated in the state who live in Martinsburg, Harpers Ferry, etc. There they can work in their fields (many of my pals there have graduate degrees in education, research, science) and be true to themselves (some are gay, others are too progressive to lead happy lives in their hometowns) while still living in WV.

I wonder if the traditional Republicans (and more conservative Dems) in the EP are seeing their area become a magnet for progressive, educated West Virginians and are trying to act in opposition to those forces. I noticed a similar situation in my hometown (Fairmont) when the area saw an influx of folks due to the high-tech businesses and the FBI center. Among other things, the local paper began running a weekend religion section that proudly announced in every issue that its purpose was to sing the glories of our lord and savior Jesus Christ, or some such shit.

What do other Mounties think of my theory?

But speaking to this legislation, I have a young niece still in WV and I WILL NOT allow the protections afforded me to be rolled back for her.

3. Yep, that part of the eastern panhandle is turning more progressive.
The area is a bedroom community for the Washington DC - Arlington area, and Shepherd University lends a progressive influence.

Like I said upthread, looks like these Republican members of the legislature are getting desperate on account of the impending general election. I believe this will not be a good year for Republicans.

This area is part of WV-02, the district of our only Republican US Congressional delegate. I would swim a river of snot if it would help unseat Smelly Snore Crappytoe.

4. That nickname amuses me
Running neck-and-neck with one coined, I believe by our beloved Hubert: "Arch in a Wig"

5. That's one of the bill written for Max or Mark
Robinson of Life Gauge. I get them mixed up. One is Life Gauge, a group that broke off from West Virginians for Life and the other is WVFL. Someone gives this whack job enough money to be at the capitol a big part of the session. This bunch of legislators actually sponsor bills for him. The good news is on anti choice day at the capitol there were probably less than 100 people. That's down from several hundred a couple of years ago.

check it out http://www.lifegauge.org/index.htm
