4. I think there are still almost 20K uncounted absentee votes.

Based on an estimate I read in the PI. One of those votes is mine. I called KingCo this a.m. and the person who answered assured me that all the votes would be counted, but the Canvassing Board is meeting at 1:30 today to discuss the "recommendation" that all the votes be counted.

So maybe Bush v. Gore didn't establish a legal precedent, but it certainly seems to have led to the situation where counting ALL the votes is considered optional.

5. CNN has 75% of precincts reporting and only a couple % between

them, wtf? 1) why is it taking so long in Wash 8? 2) why concede now before 25% is counted given how close it is?

And I don't know where CNN got their 75% number; AFAIK, all the votes cast at polling places have been counted. The concession was based on the "trend"--Reichert had a substantial lead in Pierce County and they were neck-and-neck in King County. There are an equal number of absentee ballots (estimated) left to count in each county, so the expectation was that Burner couldn't overcome his lead.

But, anything is possible ... I don't know if a "concession" is legally binding here, if in fact a miracle occurs and she pulls ahead in the final count. Updated tallies are due out within the hour.

--trying to make political hay out of widespread scientific and mathematical illiteracy. The difference between Rossi and Gregoire was less that the method error (the 0.01% variance between all three counts). So you don't know who won, even with the hand count. The law says that since, for a single race, handcounting is the most accurate method, you use the best method you have and live with the results.
