The VP Game
The VP game is being played hot and heavy on the other Boards. So lets play the game on our Texas Board. Who do you want? Who would help your local Democrats the most? Who would hurt your local Dems?

Although Richardson is not my first choice, he would probably help our local Dems here in San Antonio with his Hispanic heritage.

My actual first choice is Clark. I think that with the increasing of national security as an issue, Clark would be the best choice. He would also probably help in San Antonio due to our military voters both active and retired.

Of those who are being mentioned seriously, I don't think any would hurt Kerry or the local ticket.

1. Edwards for me
i can't pinpoint why, but there's something about edwards that pulls me in. i voted for him in the primary, then went on vacation & came back to find he'd withdrawn. :( i had soooooooo wanted to see him up against shrubbie in a debate...a trial lawyer v. shrub??

i've since found out that kerry was a former prosecutor who helped shut down the 2nd most powerful mob boss in new england, so i'm ok w/that now. :)

2. Clark for me but most people I talk to prefer John Edwards
I think he comes across to people as being sincere and they feel like they can trust him. I personally think Clark would be the best choice for vp because of his military record. To me it would be hard for 2 chickshits (that never served a day in combat duty)win the election against 2 war heros.
ELECT KERRY 2004!!!!

4. I must admit
that Clark would be a great choice too, esp. up against those 2 chickenhawks...one who went AWOL & the other who had "better things to do" than enlist & fight a war he supported.

so, while my preference is edwards, i could live with clark as vp also.

6. Put me down for Edwards as well.
I think it would then be a Clinton/Gore type of ticket. Young, handsome and energetic.

7. I'm for Clark all the way

But here in El Paso, Richardson would be the most popular choice. El Paso will most likely go Democrat no matter who's VP candidate, though. Bush was closer here in 2000 than anyone would have thought possible, but that's probably because he came out here a lot and spoke the two words of Spanish he knows and ate gorditas at The Little Diner (best Mexican food in two states).

9. Clark, by miles.
I felt like Edwards, while a great speech-giver, just didn't have much to say during the primary campaign.

He just said over and over that there are two Americas.

Yes, there are. But there's a lot more going on, too.

10. I would go for Clark except he's has made pro-republican
remarks that could come back to haunt. Edwards would be my boy (too bad about that remark on his age from Kerry). He is pretty close to being the perfect Dem. candidate and he lead such a positive campaign in the primary that there is little that can be used against him there.

12. Interesting Note
Clark is giving the Democratic radio address today and has started a PAC, asking for donations. Wonder if that means anything. http://www.wespac2004.com/#home

Edwards (bringing some spark to the message) or Richardson (diplomacy plus) would be winners, too.

13. I lean toward Edwards for his eloquence
But I would really like to see Kerry pull a rabbit out of a hat. Pick a junior representative from an unexpected state who has a long record of doing the right thing. Remember Barbara Jordan? She would have made a great VP or Pres. I suspect there is someone just like her out there just waiting for a break like this. John Kerry could use this nomination to anoint the next generation of Democrats. But he won't. Oh well.

14. Your reasoning is right on but risky and no one is willing to do that now.

15. You're right
But it seems that 1/3 of the people dislike any candidate mentioned. If he pulled out a stranger, the dislike factor might disappear.

16. The Dislike Factor
Actually, I think the dislike factor only appears on DU. Average Democrat voters will be satisfied and enthusiastic about whoever is chosen
