Edited to add that I loathe that guy, and am getting the willies mentally hearing his voice saying that - and I didn't even watch the video. Don't think I could stand it.

3. The problem with this type of "preacher" is that he is very
mainstream. He actually has a few pearls of wisdom for those who are always searching. These people seize on him and his bits of "wisdom" and make him their spiritual leader. He then leads them into paths that are the opposite of the humane, loving. accepting teaching of Christ. It is the same pattern again and again.

2. But never even mentioned in the Gospels. On the other hand,
here's something directly attributed to Jesus that would surely make Joel uncomfortable.

Mark 10

17 As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. “Good teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

18 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone. 19 You know the commandments: ‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, you shall not defraud, honor your father and mother.’

20 “Teacher,” he declared, “all these I have kept since I was a boy.”

21 Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

22 At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.

23 Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!”

4. I have a friend from college who works with him. Very closely.
She is a lesbian. Should ask her what she thinks about his comments.

5. Really - that is so sad for her
Wouldn't you think it would be hell working for this creep who thinks you're going to hell just because you love someone like you?

I hope she finds another job or volunteer activity that is a better environment for her.

Peace

8. >>you're going to hell just because you love someone like you?
Or because you don't believe in his imaginary friend?

6. It's only a matter of time until he comes out.
Just like most every other gay-hating preacher. Bleck!

9. I am sad to say I wouldn't be a bit surprised.
I don't believe in outing people unless they are public homophobes, and I'm iffy even then, as I believe in the right to a private life. Plus I don't consider "gay" a slur unless the utterer means it that way.

Nevertheless, he strikes me as a self hater or deceiver of some type. But that could be just because I find him icky, *icky*, ICKY!

7. He's a very uncharitable asshole.
He dropped out of Oral Roberts U. after two semesters, I think.

I am more qualified to be a christian preacher than he is. I had two semesters of religion at Trinity University (Presbyterian) and took a course in Old testament that dealt with textual analysis, pre-exile history, post-exile history and all that scholarly stuff.

I know someone who opened his mail at the bank. She said that he gets TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS A DAY in donations, not to mention numerous pleas for help from people.

Does he have a charity? Does he donate ONE GODDAMN DOLLAR of his untold wealth to charity, to help other people who are hungry, poor, in pain, etc.?

Not that I know of.

Uncharitable asshole greedy half-assed preacher.

12. I pray Osteen finds the way to respect others as he loves himself... as for now, he's causing more
suffering...

tsk, tsk, Joel... it is being accounted for.
