Texas Congressmen In Tea Party Caucus On Earmark Spending Spree

Although they may talk a good game about cutting the deficit and curbing national spending, Texas Congressmen who have aligned themselves with the Congressional Tea party Caucus are on an earmark spending spree–requesting more than $115 million in earmarks for FY 2010.

Hotline OnCall notes that the Texans aren’t alone, and that many Tea Party Caucus members are still as earmark crazy as ever. Congressman John Culberson (R-Houston) was the top earmarker, requesting more than $42 million in earmarks. Congressman Michael Burgess (R-Flower Mound) came in second, requesting $15.8 million in earmarks. A full Texas list of Tea Party Caucus member earmarks is below.

(snip)

Texas’ top Tea Party ear-marker was
Member # Earmarks Amount
Barton 14 $12,269,400.00
Burgess 15 $15,804,400.00
Carter 26 $42,232,000.00
Culberson 22 $3,379,200.00
Gohmert 15 $7,099,000.00
Hall 16 $12,232,000.00
Poe 12 $7,913,000.00
Smith 18 $14,078,000.00
TOTAL $115,007,000.00

Hypocrites and liars - the whole bunch of them - and their base voters too! Suckers all of you Texas tea baggers who voted for less government and thought your repuke Congressmen were going to cut earmarks! :grr:

1. The Hotline article link
Hotline 12/2/10
Tea Party Caucus Takes $1 Billion In Earmarks
Members of the Congressional Tea Party Caucus may tout their commitment to cutting government spending now, but they used the 111th Congress to request hundreds of earmarks that, taken cumulatively, added more than $1 billion to the federal budget.

According to a Hotline review of records compiled by Citizens Against Government Waste, the 52 members of the caucus, which pledges to cut spending and reduce the size of government, requested a total of 764 earmarks valued at $1,049,783,150 during Fiscal Year 2010, the last year for which records are available.

"It's disturbing to see the Tea Party Caucus requested that much in earmarks. This is their time to put up or shut up, to be blunt," said David Williams, vice president for policy at Citizens Against Government Waste. "There's going to be a huge backlash if they continue to request earmarks."

Where the hell is Fox News reporting on this scandal! Shouldn't each and everyone of these Tea Party Caucus members be raked over the coals for their blatant hypocrisy? Didn't they just get elected to stop this kind of wasteful and unnecessary spending?
