DMN 10/1/10Editorial: We recommend Haldenwang in House District 105(snip)
This Irving-based district needs new leadership, and we believe Democrat Loretta Haldenwang can provide it.
Consider this year's discovery that Harper-Brown, 62, drove a Mercedes that a company that does business with the state supplied her husband, an accountant who does work for the company. She acted as if the car were her own, applying for state plates to use on it and another vehicle that the company owned. Her clear ethical lapse brought dishonor to the chamber.
We would hate to lose her expertise on transportation issues, especially because North Texas has few leaders on that front in Austin. But she also spent too much time last session badgering state transportation leaders when she could have used her background to broker practical answers.
Finally, she has fallen in too much with the GOP's right-wing caucus. Her support for an Arizona-style immigration law in Texas, which even Gov. Rick Perry opposes, indicates she will keep opting for hard-line positions.
Linda Harper-Brown needs to go! :kick: her out!
