I need an example of something that the governor has done
when the legislature was out of session that he wouldn't have been able to do - get away with - when the legislature was in session.

This is in response to a questiion that came up during a class on Texas Government.

Thanks

1. Unfortunately most of the crap he does gets rubberstamped
By his party in the Legislature. He gets away with his crap even during the session because his party votes lock step with him.

Take for example his re-appointment of Don McLeroy to chair the SBOE. Nevermind the dimwit started the whole slide downward of the SBOE that made Texas a laughing stock nation wide. His re-appointment to chair was only rejected this last session because all the Ds voted against him. The Rs saw no problem with the nut wing. Because the Senate rules require a 2/3 vote, McLeroy lost his chair position on the SBOE. You can thank the Democrats for that. The Rs saw no problem with his crazy.

Don McLeroy wikipedia entry
(snip)
McLeroy was appointed Chair of the SBOE by Governor Rick Perry in 2007 to a term running to February 2009. Governor Perry reappointed McLeroy, an advocate of creationism, as Chairman to a second term to last until February 1, 2011,<2> but on May 28, 2009, the Texas Senate rejected the re-appointment; although the vote was 19-11 in favor with one member abstaining (along party lines; all 19 Senate members voting to reappoint were Republicans, while all 11 Senate members voting to reject and the one abstaining member were Democrats) the reappointment required a 2/3 majority for approval.

Then the air head governor appointed his latest chair Gail Lowe who is the female version of Don McLeroy after the session was over. Maybe you could say that was something he couldn't get away with during the session, but I don't know the Ds would have held for a vote against her just then.

Now they would no doubt - because she has proven to be a crazy creationist just like McLeroy is. :eyes:

2. Thanks
Yeah, I pretty much thought the same thing, it was kind of a rhetorical process question.
