3. Dear God, WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?
I mean, holy cow. I actually kind of like Shami -- he is endearing, in an offbeat and demented sort of way -- but I can't IMAGINE anyone would actually VOTE for him. I mean, seriously? :wow:

10. ITA. Wasn't impressed with either one of them, but...
I'll vote for the nominee. Let's be real here, I know issues are the most important part of an election (as it should be), but we have one candidate who is way too inexperienced (wth was the Mexican comment for???) and the other is way too vanilla. This was probably the worst debate I've ever seen in my life (I've seen many debates, and I'm no spring chicken). Hopefully, if White does win the nomination, he'll be able to ramp up the talking points against Gov. Land Grabber, and speak a lot more and with detail about his accomplishments in Houston. In the meantime, I'll have to research ~SIGH~

4. White is the obvious winner
I like Shami too. Don't want to discourage him from participating in state politics. He needs to start at a local level. Win a state representative seat or city council. He is no match for Bill White.

11. I just wonder why he wants to be Governor
He gave a speech similar to his closing remarks at one of our Democratic Party meetings, but it left me wondering if he could accomplish his goals for Texas better as a private citizen.

He told us about his plan to put solar panels on every home in Texas--great! I'm sure will Bill White as Governor, Shami would be able to do just that, by putting some of his own money into the project and working with the state to get it done.

5. No on moratorium on death penalty, drilling in Barnett Shale
and that means 'no' on Bill White for me.

If we can't pull this guy a little to the left now, it's never going to happen.

6. So you're saying you're voting for Shami?
Or are you sitting this one out?

7. No
I think probably Dr. Aguado will get my vote. Her issues page strikes me as plenty progressive.

8. Oh - I like her too
OK let's just move to November - Bill White and Rick Perry are on the ballot and some other independent or libertarian. Do you skip the vote for Bill White on the ballot?

I know it's tough being progressive in Texas. But given our choices, can you sit one out in November?

9. No again
I won't deny White my vote in November. He's been a very effective administrator for the city. All that you may have read about him working with Republicans on Houston city council is also true; my councilwoman -- who was once chief of staff for Cong. Bill Archer, who was Ways and Means chairman not so long ago -- praised White to the skies. She even said that one of the reasons she ran for council was so that she could see firsthand what his leadership style was like.

White might be the best governor this state has had in a very long time. But he has all the charisma of a rutabaga, he's just this side of a Republican himself (really, it's hard to tell the difference between him and Kay Bailey) and he resists every single thing the Texas progressives suggest, stand for, or proffer. He can also be arrogant and condescending, like most wealthy people who might actually be smarter than you (not just believe that they are).

He's not even trying to reach out in the primary, for Pete's sake.

And none of that natural-born Methodist conservatism of his and working hard to cultivate and mollify Republicans much, much more than progressives does anything for his election prospects with the TeaBaggers, who call him "Sanctuary Bill" and "Blood on his Hands" Bill and the usual stream of vomitus. Unfortunately I think he stands as much chance of defeating Governor MoFo as does Kay Bailey at this point. He simply doesn't -- and worse, won't go out of his way to -- energize the base.
