My letter to Texas Democratic Party officials re: the Jane Harman scandal
Edited on Mon Apr-20-09 10:59 AM by derby378
Good morning, everyone:

A developing story involving Rep. Jane Harman (D-CA) has just been brought to my attention:

http://rawstory.com/08/blog/2009/04/20/gonzales-blocked-prosecution-of-democrat-who-helped-keep-lid-on-wiretapping-story/

A powerful California congresswoman who at one time appeared likely to chair the House Intelligence Committee was allegedly caught by an NSA wiretap in 2005 pledging to intervene in an espionage case involving Israeli lobbyists, Congressional Quarterly’s Jeff Stein revealed Sunday.

Quoting former senior Bush Administration officials, the article also alleges that Attorney General Alberto Gonzales conspired to drop criminal action against the then-ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, Jane Harman (D-CA), because he needed her help when a firestorm of criticism erupted in December 2005 after the
New York Times published details about the NSA’s warrantless wiretapping program.

Although I realize that Rep. Harman has no direct bearing on the operations of the Texas Democratic Party, if it turns out that there is sufficient evidence to back up these allegations, my feeling is that it would be prudent to disinvite Rep. Harman and any of her staff from any future Texas Democratic Party meetings or state conventions, including the 2010 State Convention scheduled to be held in Corpus Christi. I know that we entertain guests from out of state on a regular basis, but any future association with Rep. Harman may prove to be detrimental to the overall efforts of the TDP.

Thank you for you attention to this matter. Any feedback would be sincerely appreciated.

Sincerely,

---------------------------

I encourage my fellow Texas Democrats to send or e-mail a similar letter to the folks at TDP HQ in Austin:
