Texas Voter Twister - Try It and see if you win
Texas Voter Twister

The Game That Ties You Up In Knots

In a democracy, voting should be easy. Hassle-free. A simple, rewarding experience. So why are voters being bound up with miles of red tape and bureaucratic hassles? Why are Republicans trying to make it harder to vote?

With SB 362, the Voter ID bill, Republicans will force Texas citizens to go through multiple contortions just to exercise their right to vote.

They had a large version of this at the press conference the Senators held this afternoon. Pretty good visual.

I've tried several times and I've been blocked from voting every time!:(

1. Karl Rove was at the Capitol today
I expect he has his hands all over this voter suppression issue at the Texas Lege. :grr:

Rove lunches at Texas Capitol with Katharine Armstrong
By W. Gardner Selby

Karl Rove, the former senior White House adviser to George W. Bush, once routinely walked the corridors of the Texas Capitol. Rove was back today, stopping for lunch in the cafeteria in the Capitol Extension.

Lobbyist Katharine Armstrong, who offices near the Capitol, said she enjoyed catfish and rice with Rove and lawyer-lobbyist Kerry Cammack after she ruled a trip to the downtown Headliners Club out of order; she didn’t feel properly dressed for the high-rise club.

Oh I'm sure this was just a coincidence and Rove has nothing to do with the voter suppression legislation the Republican Senate is about to shove down our throats.

It sucked!:grr:

Court refuses to expand minority voting rights

WASHINGTON – The Supreme Court limited the reach of the Voting Rights Act on Monday, a decision that could make it harder for some minority candidates to win election when voting districts are redrawn.

In a 5-4 decision, the justices ruled that a portion of the law aimed at helping minorities elect their preferred candidates only applies in districts where minorities make up more than half the population.

10. We all get the credit
It really doesn't matter to me who posts something good. And honestly you never have to ask permission to re-post it above ground. You know my habits I'm a sub-dweller of the underground. I like the deep cover of the Texas tunnel.

I don't take credit for it. Not even for finding it. I didn't write the game, but it is a very good thing they developed.

 But thanks for asking though.

Voter ID: Democrats Preview Tomorrow’s Talking Points
At a press conference this afternoon, Senate Democrats gave a preview of the arguments they will be making in tomorrow’s debate over Sen. Troy Fraser’s Voter ID bill, which is expected to last into the wee hours.

The main argument put forth will be that the only problem Republicans are solving by requiring photo identification in order to vote is the problem of citizens casting legitimate votes for Democrats. The people least likely to have photo identification—such as the elderly, the disabled and the poor—all belong to groups that vote overwhelmingly Democratic.

“The burden should be on the state to prove that there’s a real problem, that there’s no other way to deal with this problem, and that the state will not be precluding people from voting before it enacts this sort of legislation,” said Sen. Kirk Watson.

There is a picture of the Texas Voter Twister on the blog post.

14. Twisted!
Right now the Fraser bill does not exempt 65 and over but HB125 Betty Brown in the House does.
