Apparently, to have your vote tallied you need to cast your ballot in a certain way:

1. My county uses Hart's eSlate machines, posted on TCDP's website
There have been some rumors and misinformation spreading about straight-party voting, especially about your vote for President. Please read the following from the Executive Director:

To enter a straight-party vote (that is, a vote for all the candidates of one party), turn the select wheel to highlight the name of that party and press ENTER. Entering a straight-party vote automatically gives a vote to all candidates associated with that party, and is indicated by a red mark in the box to the left of all candidates’ names associated with that party.

WARNING: If you turn the select wheel to highlight the name of a candidate that has already received a straight-party vote, pressing ENTER again will remove the vote from that candidate, and the box to the left of that candidate’s name will be cleared, indicating no vote has been entered for that candidate. If you remove the vote from a candidate in error, press ENTER again to place a red mark in the box to the left of the candidate’s name.

If you select a candidate associated with a party other than the straight-party selection, your vote for that candidate will be counted in that particular contest.

Carefully review the ballot summary screen(s) to be sure each desired contest and measure has been voted.

Contests marked on the summary screen(s) as “no selections” have not been voted.

DO NOT PRESS THE “CAST BALLOT” BUTTON until all of your vote selections are confirmed on the summary screen(s).

Once your ballot has been cast, we are unable to retrieve or re-issue your ballot.

Please request immediate assistance from an election official if you have any questions.

I have been talking to the BOE's offices off and on about our machines. I have been "assured" (?) that our machines are safe, and that they record the votes accurately. However, I don't think that I can fully trust those machines. I even have trust issues with the Paper Ballet machines, but at least with the Paper Ballot machines there IS a Paper Trail.

2. I don't ever use the "straight ticket" button. IMO, those buttons might as well
be labeled, "Trash my vote, please". You can see I'm an optimist. ;-)

4. I don't ever vote "straight ticket" either
I like filling in all my votes cast for the candidate. That also allows me to vote for third parties if there isn't a Democrat to vote for on the ballot.

I will ONLY vote with a Paper Ballot, I usually make that an issue when I'm asked at the sign in table, "Give me Paper, I want my vote to have a PAPER TRIAL."

In Tarrant County we have had a shortage of Democratic Judges running for office. So, if the rethuglicons has an opponent then I usually vote for them. But this year we actually have some Democrats running so they will most definitely get my vote. :-)

Even the Candidate who beat me in our Challenge Chili Cook-off for Change @ our Debate Watch Party. We both cooked Vegetarian Chili.

5. I'm in one of those counties where you have to be unable to get to the polls
throughout the entire voting period to use a paper ballot. :eyes:

6. Thanks. I submitted a brief summary if they want to add it to the list. Right
now, I wouldn't be surprised if it takes a voodoo ritual to get your vote properly recorded on an eSlate. :silly:
