Something you should know about Chris Bell
I went to every redistricting hearing I could including one in Austin and the rally in Austin.

During the first hearing in Houston, Congressman Chris Bell was one of the first of a few hundred speakers. It started at 9:00 am, ended around 8:00 PM.

After he spoke, he sat down with Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Gene Green and other Democrats and stayed throughout every single speaker.

Congressman DeLay didn't show. Congressman Culberson got there at 4:30, spoke, then left.

Bell stayed throughout the hearing. He didnt have to, but he did.

It was classy.

1. please fill me in
on this Congressman. Did I hear correctly on TV that he has lost the primary to retain his seat? Is there anything WE can do to support him or is it too late?

2. If not mistaken, I believe he was...
... one of the Democratic reps whose previous district was merged with that of another Democrat, as a means of squeezing one of them out. Not much to be done under the circumstances. Except help get DeLay thrown out on his ass for his skulduggery.

4. Visit Richard Morrison's site to see how you can help!
DeLay was responsible for redistricting. He should lose his seat for it.

5. I have been curious as to what would happen if DeLay is found guilty
of all this wrongdoing.

If he used illegal campaign contributions to get republicans elected and then used those republicans to redistrict Texas, can the redistricting then be deemed "illegal by proxy" or something along those lines? Can those who won using illegal campaign contributions and laundered money be forced out of office or at least forced to run again in the next possible election (2006 or is that when they run again anyway?)

Does anybody have any idea what could be the fall out besides DeLay being shown for the crook he is? That would be good enough if you ask me but is there anything else?

Just a curious Illinoisian.

6. Absolutely concur that Chris Bell is a class act
Chris does the right thing by his constituents because it is in his heart. He's a lot like my Congressman Lloyd Doggett (although the repukes took him away from me too). They believe in what they are doing. It's not about politics or money, they love to represent the people.

And I absolutely concur that DeLay needs to lose his seat. We need to make this ethics charge stick to him like it should. He is guilty as charged, and his constituents deserve better and cleaner representation.

Chris Bell has given us a wonderful opportunity to take DeLay down.

7. I completely agree
Chris Bell is classy, witty and honorable!

He was quickly recognized in Washington as a rising star, which really set DeLay off on a tangent. Unfortunately, Al Green was only too eager to finally leave his safe, do nothing, Justice of the Peace seat he held for 25 years, to do DeLay's bidding and run against Chris in the primary. Al Green will not be coasting to victory in November, because DeLay doesn't want him in congress, just used him to challenge Chris in the primary. In the general, it is not a safe seat for Al Green. Yes, that district is minority, but it's pretty much evenly divided between Blacks and Hispanics. The Repugs are running a Hispanic woman and I hear there's support going her way from some of the Dems, so time will see.

Even with the knife in his back, two weeks after the primary, Chris Bell proved again what a class act he is, when he made the rounds of the Senate District conventions and spoke out for unity.

First we need to get Richard Morrison elected and then, let's look at Chris Bell for governor. Texas looks like a joke and Chris would show the country, that we do indeed have honor and class.

9. Wait
Is Bell running against Delay? I'm sorry I can't remember.

I saw him speak at the senate convention here... I do remember made a note to my self on a sheet of paper - "vote bell".
