Need definitive answer: what happens if Cornyn is appointed to SCOTUS?
Edited on Mon Jul-11-05 11:30 AM by crispini
I have heard two completely different things -- 1, we have an election, and 2, GWB gets to appoint a replacement to fill out the term. Anyone got the definitive answer?

1. GWB wouldn't make the appointment -- Goodhair Perry would.

3. Technically yes...but really...
Bush would actually be doing the picking...do you think Gov. Goodhair takes a dump without getting it approved by SHrubbie first?

6. REALLLLY technically, the guy doing the picking would be
"Leaky" Rove.

And I think if it came to that, the guy who would get picked would be Lite Guvnah Dewey (and then we'd get to watch that mad scramble after all in the GOP primary, the one that Kay Bailey denied us).

But I'm not certain Cornholio could be confirmed, so it's probably all a pipe dream.

2. Right, the Governor
makes the appointment to fill the unexpired term. The election is held on the usual cycle.

This action was last taken when Ann Richards appointed Bob Krueger to serve the remainder of Lloyd Bentsen's term.

4. The only thing good about Corny being moved up to SCOTUS
is that we would not have to endure his mean, prejudiced, hateful, spiteful, liberal-hating, obnoxious persona on C-cpan anymore.

5. As others have said...
the Gov would appoint the new Senator, giving that person incumbent statuts going into the next election.

The more interesting question is who would be appointed: possibly Dewhurst or Abbot, both of whom considered Senate runs if Kay Bailey ran for Governor.
