"psychedelic sounds" and had to have it...wore that album out then bought another..one of my favorite bands of all time. another album that featured a member of the elevators was tracy nelson`s first album "living with the animals"..
they may have been the first psychedelic band in the usa....

6. Never got to see them
Heard great things about them though...

Roky had taken his own trip before I had heard of them.

7. Roky is much better these days
He plays at his almost annual birthday party and his friends and family have established a fund to help pay for his expenses. His mom lives in my neighborhood. Absolutely best psychedelic band ever.

This is something Johnny Depp said recently. I saw the quote in the local rag (Aus Am Statesman) but couldn't find an on-line link. Found this web page which says the same thing pretty much:
http://www.ohjohnny.net/quotes6.html
"You know, like Erickson and the 13th Floor Elevators, a band out of Texas. They were basically the first psychedelic-rock band. 1965. And if you listen to old 13th Floor Elevators stuffRoky Erickson especially, his voiceand then go back and listen to early Led Zeppelin, you know that Robert Plant absolutely copped everything from Roky Erickson. And it's amazing. And Roky Erickson is sitting in Austin, Texas; he's just there. And Robert Plant had a huge hit. It always goes back to those guys, you know? I love those fucking guys."

8. I learned of them through The Los Number 2 Dinners.
They cover a few Elevators songs.

Of course, now they are the Los Number 3 Dinners, after a stint as The Pralines.

San Antonio garage band reference for those wondering who the hell I'm talking about. :D

9. Those are some funny names
You would never think they were a cover band. ha ha

Every Tex-Mex restaurant you can shake a stick at, has a #2 Dinner but to venture out to the #3 well that's very bold indeed. I'm sure the Pralines name was too sweet for them.

There's a new 13 Floor Elevator cover band in Austin called the Tommy Hall Schedule and they are very, very good. Keep that in mind if you ever see them playing somewhere around town.

10. Funny Names
I'm just thankful they didn't call themselves the Big Macs. :)

Los Number Two Dinners is a name that just seems to fit the spirit of San Antonio.

11. Got Roky's autograph
at Waterloo a short time ago. Didn't know of the 13th Floor Elevators until mid-80's while living in Oregon. "Bull of the Woods" became the soundtrack for the rest of my Oregon adventures.
