Libertarian challenger files complaint about Red Tag Betty

City Council Member Betty Dunkerley, Austin's former finance director, did not accurately complete her campaign finance forms for the past three years, according to a complaint submitted to the Texas Ethics Commission last week.

The complaint by challenger Wes Benedict alleges that Dunkerley incorrectly reported campaign contributions and expenditures. Among the errors was her failure to report any information for the eight days before the election in 2002, the peak spending period.

Dunkerley said she did not realize that there was a gap in the reporting dates when her accountant prepared the filings, nor did the city clerk catch the problem. She said she will submit an amended report to the city clerk this week that includes that period.

If Mandy Dealy or Jennifer Kim had moved over to that race, it would have been great. I like them both but I want Margot to win Place 3. I would have easily voted for Dealy or Kim against Dunkerly any day.
