GOP snacks just don't sit quite right
Interesting article.

COMMENTARY: W. GARDNER SELBY

Giant shrimp rolls will not be served, but a party for the Capitol press corps could still break ground — even if it's just reporters scuffling for fresh dirt.

Journalists, professional skeptics at heart, have a hard time accepting the idea of something for nothing. If the event planned for next Thursday by the House Republican Caucus isn't something for nothing, what in Jimmy Olsen is it?

Rep. Ruben Hope Jr. of Conroe, chairman of the 87-member caucus, says he hatched the gala — featuring House Speaker Tom Craddick of Midland — in search of news coverage.

(snip)

Republicans "have not had the rapport with the press. We've been the minority party for a long time. And we don't have the emotional side of a lot of stories" compared with Democrats versed in stressing, say, the toll of cuts in health and human services.

Democrats held a majority in the 150-member House for more than 100 years before Texas voters leaned the other way in 2002.

Is this article correct? Til 2002? Really?

1. Yep. Set the stage for the redistricting.
That's why DeLay had to buy those seats, and why he's in trouble for forwarding corporate money to those races.

Say what you will about the slimy little extortionist vermin, he does think strategically, if not ethically or legally. :grr:
