Hey ya'll.
After the amazing time I had at the Rally in DC, I came home fired up and ready to do something to educate our young people about what's happening to their right to choose.
I'm planning on showing "If These Walls Could Talk" and having a discussion group afterward for any teenagers we think we can get interested in the political process this way. Especially the ones who will be eligible to vote in November!!
I'll have books to get them interested, voter registration cards, and numbers of reps and senators, plus contact info for NARAL, TARAL, and Planned Parenthood. Yummies will be served, too.
Any of you who are relatively local, let me know if you want to bring an interested teenager (or a carload-- have them tell their friends they're going to a "movie-watching party"--just don't necessarily tell them which movie)
I'm trying to keep this very word-of-mouth so I don't have fundies egging my house or worse. PM me for details and let me know how many kids you think you might be able to bring.
I'm hoping once these kids get angry and inspired, they can share all this information by word of mouth with friends who are also around voting age.
I was angry that I never had anyone to get me interested in politics when I was younger. I wish I'd had someone (besides non-committal parents and a crappy government teacher) to pique my interest in an issue close to me. Hopefully, we can break that cycle for these kids.
Hope to see you there! FSC
