His friends have called him crazy.

But Chris Bell doesn't care. He's formed an exploratory committee for the 2006 governor's race anyway.

The Houston Democrat, defeated last year after a single term in the U.S. House, admits he has a lot of work ahead of him. Not only will he have to build his name recognition statewide, but he's also considering a run when no Democrat holds a statewide office.

Though Republicans call it wishful thinking, Democrats hope the state's growing Hispanic population will fuel a comeback by the party as soon as 2008 or perhaps by 2012.

1. FYI: he went up against DeLay in House Ethics Committee

For all the non-Texans who may be unfamiliar with Chris Bell, he had the moxie to file a complaint about Tom DeLay with the House Ethics Committee. Ethics Committee reprimanded DeLay.

Repukes were not happy: they replaced the Repuke head of the Ethics Committee this term.

Don't know how much of a chance Bell has in the gubernatorial contest, but he's got my vote ! He always struck me as having the "voice of reason" while he was in Congress.

Chris Bell is awesome, I worked as an intern in his district office before he was redistricted out, and he is really a good guy. Everybody needs to get behind this guy so that we don't end up with another horrible candidate like Tony Sanchez again!!!
