Families USA blasts CoverTN for 'bare bones' coverage
A national advocacy organization called Tennessee’s CoverTN basic health care plan for working uninsured people a “wrong model for other states to follow” on Thursday.

A Families USA report concluded that so-called “bare bones,” “limited benefit” or “defined benefit” plans — exemplified by CoverTN — are far from quality, affordable health coverage.

In response, CoverTN Benefits and Administration Executive Director Laurie Lee called the report “poorly researched” and “dishonest.”

CoverTN should be compared to the individual market, not comprehensive employer-sponsored health insurance, Lee said.

1. Fraud & Health Care ? Surely not...
It is shocking to see what is really deemed, defended and supported as "the acceptable standards of health care" in East Tennessee. It's nothing at all like we are led to believe from slick misleading advertising. http://www.wisecountyissues.com/?p=62 Profit Care comes ahead of Patient Care...

2. CoverTN was shuffled through BCBS wasn't it?
Why am I not surprised? I despise BCBS of TN.

3. Yes, BCBSTN is the carrier.
From the article:
"Now the state is offering a facade of a health care plan that is so skimpy that Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee, the plan’s administrator, even declines to call it insurance."

Pretty bad when the plan's insurance company doesn't even call a policy insurance.

*****

I have an employer plan through BCBS on NC. Starting this year, they no longer cover colonoscopies. They say they aren't necessary. I think all insurance pretty much sucks. Now, I am stuck needing a colonoscopy and don't have the $2,000 to pay out of pocket. I also have Medicare, but it will only pay for the procedure every 10 years. Trouble is that I need them every 5 years. I, quite frankly, don't know what to do.
