Jim DeMint, the three-term Congressman from Greenville and current GOP nominee for Senate, has pursued a different course. He lives in a church.
Well, it's not really a church, but a four-story townhouse on C Street two blocks from the Capitol. In 2002, Lisa Getter of the Los Angeles Times reported that the 8,000-square-foot townhouse has 12 bedrooms, nine bathrooms, five living rooms, three offices, a kitchen and a small chapel. DeMint is one of eight members of Congress who live there, paying an enviable $600 a month rent in a tight Washington real estate market.
