Vehicle Emissions Inspections
I'm cheesed. They've introduced the annual emissions inspections here in south central, and now I have to pay $40 per vehicle per year to confirm the fact that my vehicles are in excellent operating condition. (I am kind of anal about maintenance) Add that on top of the $20.00 per vehicle per year for the safety inspection on 4 vehicles, and it starts to add up to real money.

What do you think about this program? Does it have actual benefits, or is it simply a scheme to steer business to garage owners?

1. I think it's a good idea
We don't have any emissions testing here in Indiana, and let me tell you, there are cars that I've pulled over to let them get a few miles ahead of me before I kept driving, because I could not stand to drive behind them. I'm guessing maybe 1/10 of the cars here wouldn't pass emissions. It amazed me when I moved here to learn there were no inspections, since I'm from CT, and remember my mom going every year...

2. Emissions testing is a
<sarc> good way to keep the poor riff-raff and their jalopies off the road. </sarc>

Our state discontinued emissions testing because it was found that most of emissions reduction came from design improvements and very little came from keeping older cars up to standards.

3. The funny thing is
after you spend all that money on testing, you end up on the Parkway behind an 18-wheeler that is belching pollution like Pittsburgh circa 1945.
