Top Story – SANTORUM FAMILY VALUES EXCLUSIVES
These stories are not in any news report to date.

SANTORUM SIGNED COUNTY FORM THAT PENALIZES FALSE RESIDENCY STATEMENTS WITH UP TO ONE YEAR IN PRISON AND $ 2,500 FINE
Pittsburgh, PA 11/21/04 - Residents of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania can obtain a county tax reduction by completing an Application for Homestead & Farmstead Exclusions. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (11/19/04), the Act 50 tax exclusion was “claimed by the Santorums on the Penn Hills house.”

After completing the standard name and address information, Pennsylvania’s junior senator, Rick Santorum, and his wife would have answered a series of questions. The penalty for false statements is “…prosecution as a third degree misdemeanor and a fine of up to $ 2,500.” The first question asked is, “Do you use the property as your primary residence?” The second question is, “Do you claim anywhere else as your primary residence?" Mr. Santorum has been reported to have two people, both registered voters but not named Santorum, living in his Penn Hill house. There have been no reports of how many people live in his Virginia estate.

The Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, Crimes and Offenses (Title 18), states , “A crime is a misdemeanor of the third degree if it is so designated in this title or if a person convicted thereof may be sentenced to a term of imprisonment, the maximum of which is not more than one year.” Link to Act 50 application (must have Adobe to view form) -

CYBERSCHOOL CEO IS MAJOR GOP CONTRIBUTOR
Pittsburgh, PA 11/21/04 - The SANTORUM FAMILY VALUES (santorum CYBERGTE Links) post at DemocraticUnderground.com, has learned of a new development in the CYBERGATE scandal. The CEO of the Western Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School is a major GOP contributor. Nick Trombetta has contributed at least $2,000.00 to western Pennsylvania Republican US Rep. Melissa Hart. Our investigation has not found any evidence of contributions to Democrat candidates. In a story on thepittsburghchannel.com on 11/8/04, Mr. Trombetta said that “he thinks those who criticize Santorum are motivated by politics.” Ten days later, when his teaching staff “volunteered” to teach Santorum’s children for free, Trombetta was quoted by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette as saying, "This is not about politics or special treatment. This is about going to bat for our students, something we do every day for every child enrolled in our school.''

That’s why you need to go back home to Virginia and Pennsylvania needs to have a new senator.
A US Senator has to do what’s best for ALL the families of the state, the country, and yes, even the world.

11/16/04 - Rooney Demands Refund For Santorum's Cyber School Costs

PA Dem Chair Says Santorum “Robbing Pennsylvania Students” for Personal Gain

HARRISBURG, PA: After days of news reports detailing how Senator Rick Santorum has taken $100,000 in Pennsylvania taxpayer dollars for cyber-schooling his children, Rep. T.J. Rooney, Chair of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party, today called on Santorum to refund Pennsylvania's children the taxpayer dollars he has taken from their education to put towards the education of his own children.

Santorum and his family live in Virginia.

Rooney said today, “Senator Santorum keeps going around trumpeting family values, trying to convince citizens that he is the voice for the Pennsylvania family. Now we learn that apparently Mr. Santorum believes that family values means taking from the children who need our help to pay huge bills for his own family, even though they don't live in Pennsylvania.”

According to the Associated Press, the Penn Hills School District in suburban Pittsburgh has spent $100,000 on the Internet-based education of Santorum's children since 2001-2002. Santorum purchased his two bedroom residence in the school district in 1997 for $87,800. His Leesburg, Virginia home was assessed at $757,000 this year.

“This is a classic case of the rich man's Robin Hood,” Rooney followed. “Mr. Santorum makes a generous salary and lives in a very expensive home in Virginia, but he didn't let that stop him from unfairly taking from the Pennsylvania students who need those school funds desperately.”

NOTE: I do not have a link for this story but I have reliable sources.

Correction: In the 11/20/04 edition I incorrectly reported the amount of Mr. Nick Trombetta's contributions as $3,000 and that contributions were made to both Rep. Hart and Rep. Tim Murphy. Rep. Hart's name was incorrectly reported as Elizabeth. The contribution to Mr. Murphy ($1000.00) was made by Mr. Ronald Trombetta. It is not known if there is any relation between the two men.

at DU because this is big stuff and getting bigger. this is actually news that can be broken on DU instead of just reporting it later when it hits the wires.

i haven't been around DU long enough to know how things work here but i'm hoping that this starts getting the attention it deserves. we could be emailing the press to get them to move their lazy asses.

with front page visibility, we might be able to get someone from VA to follow through on your suggestion. it's a good idea. i just don't know how to make it happen.

thanks for the encouragement. although the story is gaining legs, i sometimes feel like i'm yelling at the top of my lungs in an empty room.

as a special show of my appreciation, YOU ARE THE FIRST TO READ THIS:

According to the County of Allegheny “YEAR 2004 REAL ESTATE TAX Information Bulletin – February 2004”, the “residential Homestead Exemption…will now save you about $ 70.35 off your county tax bill.”

santorum may have screwed himself for seventy dollars and thirty five cents!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

7. Santorum and Cyber School
Sigh. As a parent of a child in the PA Cyber Charter School, I can't tell you how distressed I was to find out Santorum's kids were enrolled there. And then to find out the CEO is a major contributor to the republican party--OY! If my daughter didn't love the school so much, I'd pull her out right now. Well, I'm glad the Penn Hills School District caught him and I hope at the very least, he has to pay back every dime.

Kris

8. well then, a great big WELCOME to you!
and just a note -

you probably meant do your post to the original message. don't worry we've all done that (well i hope it wasn't just you and me!).

ALSO - i believe the bigger issue will become the Homestead Tax Exclusion! less money involved but there is jail time possible for signing a false declaration of residency.

9. If I were you, and my kids were "paying customers" of the...
PA Cyber Charter School (either paid by you or your school district), I'd scream bloody blue murder if His Holiness' kids get "donated" tuition and your child doesn't!

Hmmmm, there MAY be some applicable law about this; am not sure K-12 charter schools accepting public funds (as in tuition payments from school districts) can legitimately offer "scholarships" to some children and not others on an equal basis...

Hmmm.

BTW, welcome to DU, though I am pretty new myself...

10. If I were you, and my kids were "paying customers" of the
Well, since it's a public charter, it's all paid for by the kids' home districts. As far as I know, there are no students who pay their own tuition. I agree that they shouldn't be offering free services to the Santorums. I said so on the PCCS parent discussion list. It seems like a lot of those parents are defending the Santorums though, which I just don't get. Well, maybe I do. I guess they're a bunch of right wing Santorum lovers.

16. FINAL EDITION ---------------------SANTORUM FAMILY VALUES ...........
will be out on or about 12/15/04

it will contain updates on the CYBERGATE Scandal and many new links.

sorry for the delay!

after that I will be moving to a website (or at least a blog).

i will still try to provide the most comprehensive compilation of CYBERGATE Scandal links and resources.

i will also regularly post a link on DU and check in to see what's happening!

Note to the two local DUers who have helped so much with links: (you know who you are)
i will always have a "credits" section that includes your DU username.

as some of you know, i've put a lot of time into this issue, and i think i've helped, in a small way, to move this issue along.

i just think it would be easier to work within the structure of a website (or even a blog.) and I just don't care to see in print the nonsense that was posted in reply to my most recent post:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=175x2883

an email to me, calling a story about actual activism "nothing" would be trashed and never make in on to the "internets".

so look for the Final Edition of Santorum Family Values around the middle of the month. The End......or just the beginning?
