Jeannette Maples died a slow and horrific death isolated in her Mother's home. Members of the community are trying to raise awareness and create a memorial for her.

The horrific details of the murder of Jeanette Maples were brought to light through both McAnulty trials. Now those involved in the case formed a group hoping to create something positive in Maples' memory.

Her tragic life and death scarred everyone involved that night: The paramedics who responded to a 911 call and tried to revive the battered, emaciated teen. The emergency physician who pronounced her dead. The medical examiner who catalogued injuries so numerous he could not pinpoint a single cause of death. The detectives, prosecutors and child protection workers who also went to her familys River Road home that night.

One described a sense of evil so palpable he wanted to run from the house. Some could not help crying despite years of training and experience with horrific child abuse cases.

Most called the case the worst of their careers. Jeanettes case also traumatized the judge who presided over Angela McAnultys case.
