2. Lab, Goose, a new place? I'm pretty flexible...
I liked the dive over by the college. How about a sushi & sake place?

5. an excess of flexibility has ever been our burden
I'm open to the sushi & sake idea, but I don't know any of the good places to get it. There's also the matter of smokes -- anything like that I've been to in Portland has been non-smoking premises. Might be a fun side-trip, tho.

3. What say I ....
I say 'Hey' ... Second Saturday ....

What place by the college ? .... I can recall 'The Blind Onion', but that is a Pizza Pub ....

I know of one place we haven't tried yet : Hillsdale Brewery and Public House ....

http://www.mcmenamins.com/index.php?loc=20

I have never introduced it before, because it is so damned close to my home ....

It says 'non-smoking establishment', but I think they allow smoking in the large covered deck in the front .... Better call first ....

4. I think greyhound meant The Lutz...
Edited on Mon Mar-03-08 04:31 AM by 0rganism
The Lutz is a sleazy dive, with cheap beer and that kind of godforsaken atmosphere you'd expect in a truckstop halfway to hell. It resonates with a spirit of nostalgic decadence, or maybe it's decadent nostalgia. The Lutz jukebox is kind, there's pool and pinball. I think you were either sick or injured the time we went there, though.

But this place over where you live sounds pretty sweet too, if they'll allow outdoor smokes (but if it's McMenamins pub, they've been leaning anti-tobacco in recent years so it'd be a long shot). And it's a wee bit closer for most of us, I think, Reader Rabbit being the exception.

Hmm, thinking of inner SE, decadence, and nostalgia, maybe we should do a Rocky Horror Picture Show outing at the Clinton St. Theater the week before the primary? Last time I went, they had a pretty well-tuned cabaret, and it's been a proud Portland tradition for something like 30 years now, every Saturday at midnight.

It's worth a ponder anyway, might not be the thread for it.

9. Aw heck ... I should have guessed that ....
Though I am a fan of all three of the former references ....

We can 'bank' the Hillsdale Brewery for next month (I am pretty sure they still allow smoking on the patio, where I have spent about 5 hours smoking over time ... as recently as 3 months ago ...)

The Lutz sounds great though .....

Make up your minds, and I'll see you there.

I notice, no Viva, no Reader Rabbit.

You guy's down for this yet. You haven't checked in.

Any way, I'll be there.

15. Somebody say Leadership?..
fresh out today, but I'd be willing to show up anyway. Been working too hard this week (nice change!) to not have a beer with you guys.

I nominate the Manilla Express in Tigard.

A true dive bar. :)

17. Leadership Schmeadership ....
I just went to the Hillsdale Brewpub with my son and wife, and they said smoking was still allowed on the deck .... But as I said: That is just too easy for me; it is nearly on my doorstep. It is on the 56, 54, 35, 44 and 45 bus routes, so it is a pretty easy commute for westsiders ... Off at Sunset, make a left, second building on the right ...

And it is not bad for eastsiders either (those that drive) : Over the Ross Island Bridge to south Barbur, make the turn on Route 10-Capital Hwy, past Terwilliger make a right on Sunset and its the second building on the right.

You know ? ... I know I can be overbearing at times, and so I prefer to back off and let others chime in, to express their preference. Hell: I would pick EVERY place if someone let me, but that wouldn't be fair ....

I would like the Lutz, I am sure, but I haven't been there, and I really don't know much else about it ....

I am game for EITHER ..... If the Lutz is cheaper, then maybe we should choose that route, because I could use a cost savings this week ....

So Organism ? .... YOU take the dictatorial lead, and make the decision: I am at work, and will be arriving after 4 PM, in any case ...

And: I have some discs for ya ....

(PS to Portland DUers: If you got it, bring it .. I need it ...)

18. I'd make a very poor dictator today, as I can't come to the meetup
...the main reason being my exceptionally snarly, vicious mood. Don't know how it happened, but I'm just not a nice person to be around today. Thanks for offering the disks, tho -- maybe we can meet briefly later this week? Today just sucks...

14. I'm willing, but I don't have much energy.
I'll try to make it today, wherever you guys decide to go, but it all depends on how I'm feeling later today. (I've had that frickin' cold that's been going around, and I can't seem to shake the last bits of it.)

20. any eastsiders up for a beat Gordon Smith party 3/14?
It's in a private home, so I'll only pass the info to people who are longtime DUers in Portland. Donations to candidates opposing Smith will be solicited and accepted. Much fun hoped for, with live music and stuff. Cash beer and wine. PM me if you want more info.
