2. Help! I'm stuck in Yakima!
We had a bit of car trouble, so we've had to settle in for a couple of days. They need to bring a part in, and since tomorrow is the 4th, they can't get to it till Thursday, so we're arriving in Portland on Friday. It could be worse. We have a renter from the dealer, so we still got to Rainier today (Tuesday), and there'll be lots of fun stuff to do on the 4th. That leaves Thursday for winery tours. That's not too bad. Thank God we didn't conk out in some little podunk town along the way, Yakima is actually a very nice town.

Anyway, Saturday's still fine with me.

Friends of mine are having a BBQ a block away, we can crash it after!

15. I will be late
I have to work, and then run home to shower. FreedRadical says he might be late too, but he's coming.

Amnesia Brewing

832 N Beech St
Portland, OR 97227

http://www.pdxguide.com/lifestyles/nightlife/nightlifeReviews/amnesia.cfm

This three-year-old brew pub, located on the ever-expanding commercial stretch of North Mississippi Street, makes drinking outdoors a number one priority. The bar itself is a tastefully converted warehouse (hanging vines meet industrial steel) with a beer-making factory in the back. Garage doors roll up on the front, exposing the interior to the heavy foot traffic of North Mississippi Street. Occasionally, live music sets up against the far wall — on my most recent visit, an acoustic duo played an atmospheric set of Medieval folk tunes.

But the real attraction is the front patio. A sturdy, all-weather canopy stretching across what was formerly a paved parking lot, covering a baker's dozen of picnic tables (easily re-configured to accommodate very large parties). This outdoor seating arrangement, which easily triples the bar's carrying capacity, is an all-season proposition; the tent protects patrons from both the sun and the rain while two heating units are in place to fight off breezy chills.

Obviously, hand-crafted beer is a major attraction at Amnesia Brewing. Flavors running through the pub's five tap handles range from the hoppy to the honey-tinged. According to one satisfied looking customer, enjoying a burger plate with his pint, "I like them. very drinkable."

6. OK, count me in, we hit town on Friday
That's a good venue for me, we'll be staying at Jantzen Beach (probably), so it's not far for me. I could even send the girls off and take the Max (is that right?) back.

What time does this soiree start, and how will I know you? Or I could just wear an ugly hat or something.

11. Amnesia is great. Enjoy the neighborhood!
Sad that I'll have to miss it, but at least I'll be having some fun at my darling bride's company picnic at Oaks Park.

Have a great time, and I hope to see y'all in August.

13. Goddammit, I can't make it!

Yes, I'm still in Yakima. My truck is fixed, but the dealer said that under no circumstances should I drag my trailer with it until it's been broken in for 500 miles. BTW, it was a shot bearing in the differential, and since it was a warranty repair we decided to replace the whole thing. The diff, not the truck. Anyway, we drove to Seattle and back today (Friday) so that took a big chunk out, but we have to drive around a bunch more on Saturday. So, sadly, our Portland fun is reduced to stopping for the night on our way to Newport, as we're booked in there starting on Monday night. Damn it all, I was really looking forward to meeting you. I guess it'll have to wait for my next trip there, which can't come soon enough, as far as I'm concerned.

19. I finally made it to Portland!
We wound up going by way of Long Beach and Newport, managed to dodge the hot weather. I'm sure sorry I missed the party, maybe in another four years. That seems to be how often I come to Oregon.
