1. Yes. You can call them.
Voters can call before the election to make sure it's been received & that the signature is good. I think you can even call after the election to make sure that it was received, but of course if it wasn't, then you're SOL.

3. Something like that. I know that it's long enough
before that there's a real danger of me getting coffee stains all over mine.

4. Is there an argument against the election officials mailing...
...the ballots sooner, like 6 weeks before Election Day, for example?

7. It has to do with the voter registration deadline,
which is three weeks prior to the election. Then ballots go only to registered voters.

I'm a long-time Oregonian, have lived all over the state, been voting for 40-some odd years, and I love vote by mail.

12. I get mine much earlier than 3 weeks prior to the election
However, I live out of state with the military, so they have to allow for extra mailing time. Plus, with some military members, it takes a long time for mail from the U.S. to reach them.

It's a great system, and I'm really proud of my home state for having paper ballots in case of recounts.

5. Yes.
I personally deliver my family's ballots to our county election headquarters.

That said, Oregon has 36 counties. Each is reponsible for conducting their respective local elections. All counties provide drop-off sites, if you don't trust the USPS.

The bottom line is that if there's a question, there's a paper trail.

Oregon's model should be adopted nationwide. It works, and there's no controversy.

6. I take mine to my library.
The drop box is right there by the check-out counter, and I know the steely-eyed librarians would never allow any shenanigans to take place! ;-)

8. That's where I always drop mine off too.
The libraries all have locked boxes with a slot to drop it in. Last election, I asked the librarian how often the boxes where picked up. She said every two or three days in the weeks prior to the election & once it got closer, they were picked up once or twice a day.

As an aside, the library bond measure in Multnomah County passed by 61% Woo hoo! Oregonians love, love, love their libraries.

10. I called the day before the election
Just to make sure that my ballot arrived. (I admit to waiting until the last minute to mail mine from out of state.) The woman at the county clerk's office was very polite, and she told me that my ballot had arrived and was accepted. All was well.

I love vote by mail. :patriot:

11. Yep, you know when the GOTV guys stop calling you
That last week can get pretty annoying for any affiliated non-voters. When your ballot arrives, your name gets taken off their canvassing lists.
