Petro running fundie tv ads
Just saw an ad this morning by Jim Petro featuring his support of the "sanctity of life" complete with pictures of premature babies, pics of the Bible and message about the "sanctity of marriage". Family values, family values, family values...

Very expensively produced, you can see he's trying to impose the right wing fundie "values" frame on the 2006 campaign.

I guess he also cares about corruption, must be why he waited almost 2 months to investigate Coingate and why he ignored inquiries from the Feds about the security of its investments.

Petro must think stealing from taxpayers isn't a "family value".

Too bad he's trailing the Dems in the polls.

1. Haven't seen that one yet
I've seen Petro's "He's returned $50 million (or whatever) to Ohioans" commercial. I think I'm fairly astute, but I have no bleedin' idea what that ad refers to.

I'm glad Petro is explicitly (is that the right word in this context?) going after fundie support. The idea of him and Blackwell fighting for the Christian neo-fascists conjures up images of warring Crusaders. It should be VERY entertaining.

:applause:

2. Petro is really far behind Blackwell in the polls I think
I wanted to puke when I saw that ad.

But as I understand it, Petro has gotten desperate and doesn't have much of a chance.

3. Welcome to DU
As you can see, I'm new here myself.

It's hard for me to see where the moderate Rs are going to go in this Primary. I suspect that many (correctly) view Blackwell as an extremist who is 4-square with the Christian neo-fascists. Petro would seem to be the logical (for Republicans) moderate alternative, but here he is trying to cut into Blackwell's RW base. That leaves pro-choice Montgomery, who is the farthest behind in the polls (and, presumably, fund raising).

Maybe the moderate Rs will just stay home in the Spring.

5. Retirement fund scandals
He and Montgomery also were on board for State Teacher's Retirement Fund and almost ruined it. Apparently, he feels being blind to corruption is what the right wing likes in a family value candidate.

6. Petro used to be endorsed by Planned Parenthood
according to one of his detractors in the Blackwell campaign. I have read that Ohio gops have been successful by being moderate. I think that era is over.
