How is voting going in Ohio? Is the GOP cheating?
I see that they're letting the GOP turn away voters at precincts. How worried should I be?

1. They are NOT letting the GOP turn away voters in Ohio....
...where did you hear that. They are allowed to challenge voters BUT any attempt to challenge voters for the sake of challenging or for the sake of slowing down the lines will not be tolerated. We are all over it - and will take immediate action in the courts - hindering voting is against the law. They can be there but they can't hinder.

2. Thanks. That makes me feel better.
:-) I realize the court wouldn't say, "You can turn away voters." I was embellishing. But this is the way I see the GOP effort. I see them going to minority precincts and looking for any way possible -- any excuse -- to deny people their right to vote. I'm glad to hear this is being taken care of. Thanks for putting my mind at ease. I KNOW we're going to win today, IF it's a fair election; if the GOP can't cheat their way to victory.

3. Shortage of machines in Columbus.
Where there were eight machines for the primaries there are only three machines for the election. Result is hour long wait in the rain.

6. My stepdaughter voted there this morning.
It was her first voting experience, and a bit of a challenge. Seems her last name was misspelled on the roll, so she had to produce THREE forms of ID. Fortunately, she was prepared and persistent, and she got to vote - for Kerry, of course!

4. I was calling for the Kerry campaign this morning in Cleveland...
Some of the callers were asking people who had already voted if they had any problems, and there seemed to be none. Generally, they said they had waited in line for about an hour, and it is not a good day weatherwise. The people are determined to defeat Bush this time!

8. no problems
There was some guy just kinda hanging around watching everybody, but I didn't see anything going on. Only 20 minutes in line too! We missed the early morning rush and made it before the lunch crowd. The only excitement we had while waiting was one of the poll workers asked a teacher if she could put her newspaper away. I guess you're not allowed to have a newspaper in the voting area?
