Derek Ali was killed early Sunday morning as he pushed a woman out of the line of fire when shooting began outside a party in Dayton, where he was working as a DJ.

I worked as a copy editor at the DDN and knew Derek well. He was the happiest, most upbeat person you would ever meet. He was a joy to work with. He was greatly involved with the community, and his loss is hitting a lot of people hard because it is so senseless, so despicable, so tragic.

Please keep Derek, his family, and his DDN colleagues in your thoughts and prayers.

4. How sad, I saw that in the paper.

And (Steve?) Adams, the photo editor InkAddict mentions elsewhere in the thread, who died while setting up his cameras for the Springfield rally. DDN isn't the worst daily I've read, by far -- and I've heard good things about Derek Ali, as well, besides his work for DDN. What a shame to lose both of them.
