WASHINGTON (AP) — Ohio's secretary of state secured more conservative support of his campaign for governor Thursday when he went to Washington to promote President Bush's Supreme Court nominee.

Kenneth Blackwell has promoted himself as a values-oriented candidate. One of his two major opponents in the Republican primary, Attorney General Jim Petro, responded with television ads presenting his own conservative credentials.

Members of the Coalition of African American Pastors said they asked Blackwell to speak for them in support of nominee Samuel Alito because Blackwell added some national political clout from his past federal appointments.

3. McCain benefits
from comparisons with W and his merry band of neocon thugs. In fact, he is fairly sensible on a number of issues, such as prisoner torture. Lots of otherwise good-thinking people (e.g., my spouse) have a high opinion of McCain, overlooking his true right-wing credentials.

2. Sickening. Just let civil rights go down the tube.
How can they not care about the even larger issue of how confused Blackwell's thinking is in general...about everything. Sometimes I want to chalk it up to insanity, but he's just too conniving and opportunistic. He would be the scariest and most dangerous of any of the would-be govenors.
