N.C. Democrats upbeat on party

Recent national woes for Republicans add to a feeling of potential

JIM MORRILL

Staff Writer

ASHEVILLE - N.C. Democrats gathered in Asheville Saturday, optimistic about what their chairman called the "tremendous potential" of 2006.

"Public sentiment is against the Republicans, just like it was against the Democrats in 1994," said Chairman Jerry Meek, alluding to the year Republicans swept to control of Congress.

1. Asheville is such a cool city.
Can't wait to go back and visit again--I was there almost exactly a year ago, prior to the election, and it was a real pleasure to visit such a liberal, politically active community.
