1. i'm entering my first summer

here in NC. been in CA all my life. it is sapping the life out of me. and the worst thing is something a coworker said to me the other day: "it's not humid."

i'm like scared! how can it get worse than this? to top it off, my car has no air. no. air.

11. its my first summer too. im used to miami weather.

that last week of 100 degree+ was a bit brutal but this week is fine and it has been getting cool at night like down into the mid low 70s.

8. What part of NC?

If you are in the middle of the state, you're in for hell. The mountain area get hot too, but not so bad. But hey, what do I know anymore I live in Northern Cal and while it's hot today we don't have the humidty but it can get miserable. I have instant AC...my little hand held fan from Cambodia made of bamboo and silk that opens and closes.

Not a hurricane, but a weak tropical storm. Most of them come by way of the Florida panhandle and work their way north.

6. Sucks to live in NC

now that summer is on us. Humidity is not bad yet either...oh well. It won't be cool again until mid October either...I love NC, but hate the heat and humidity. My worst memories are as a teen priming/working tobacco fields in August followed up by going to football practice....But the money was good for teens, at least back in the 70s it was...Thank goodness for AC!

I didn't think it was very hot there, compared to here. How hot IS it? Are you in the north or south or middle?

The difference between TX and NC is humidity. My mom visited TX and wants to move there because of the lack of humidity.

13. TX is a huge state. Humidity depends on what part of TX. I'm in Dallas, normal humidity.

People here thinks it's humid. But I'm from south Louisiana, so to me, it's not humid here. But it's not dry, either.

North TX is dry to normal, I think. South TX is very humid (Houston). West TX is dry.

Personally, I like the humidity. Even though Dallas is not that humid, the lack of humidity allows the temperatures to get high. It was 101 degrees on Sunday, 100 degrees on Monday. I think it's supposed to hit only 99 degrees today. And believe you me, the fact that it's not that humid does NOT make triple digits feel not hot. Because the elevation is higher than where I'm from, the sun is also a lot brighter. Blindingly bright.

14. It was over 100 every day for a week or so, 90's now

I am in Chapel Hill, several degrees cooler than the hot spots in NC, and for 8-10 days it was at or over 100. While that would not be unusual for July or August, it was hotter earlier than usual. The entire east coast was cooking; Central Park, NY was 100.

It is now a bit cooler, highs mostly in the 90's.

I compare central NC with Austin; NC is a couple of degrees cooler, but nearly makes up for it with the humidity. There is an area in the southeast of NC that reminds me of LA -- high humidity and summer highs around 100, lows around 80. That is where I grew up without AC. The heat doesn't last quite as long as it does along the Gulf, but it is still bad.

And the hostile flora and fauna: snakes, gators, bugs of all sorts, plants that eat the bugs (fly traps, pitcher plants). Probably why NC has some of the largest military training bases in these areas, including Fort Bragg and Camp Lejeune.
