Bloomberg embarrasses Olympics with blatant bribes
Edited on Wed Apr-20-05 03:17 PM by KurtNYC
If the IOC is true to their word, Bloomberg and Doctoroff have hurt NYC's chances by offering to pick up IOC expenses (and have NYC taxpayers foot the bill).

New York mayor Michael Bloomberg had earlier offered sports federations a chance to gain a foothold in the lucrative U.S. market as part of their pitch to win the race. New York also offered free office space with computers, phones and staff to sports federations.
...
``We come from a period of excesses, from a period of red-carpet treatment and we come from a period where we had a corruption scandal in Salt Lake City.

This seems like one more instance where politicians who have gotten used to the no-scrutiny atmosphere in the USA, get in trouble when they take it outside the country. American politicians no longer work to avoid the appearance of scandals since the MSM is all but forbidden to comment on it. Of course, this kind of politics doesn't travel well.

Thank you Mike Bloomberg! Your arrogance may have saved NYC from the corruption, graft and taxes that come with hosting the Olympic Games.

1. I never thought the Olympics were a good idea
for NYC., I was under the impression the real engine behind this was Doctoroff...

Why pay more for bribes?

4. The idea of NYC hosting the Olympics is almost as stupid as
holding the RNC convention here. Bloomberg's arrogance at ignoring the wishes of the people (especially with the West Side Stadium fiasco) is going to be his waterloo. It's this "I know what's best for you, so don't even bother trying to change things" attitude he has that is going to cost him the next election.

Besides, anyone with half a brain could see why Manhattan is absolutely the WORST place in NYC to host the Olympics - we can all barely fit on this island as it is. I could see hosting it in Queens, Brooklyn or the Bronx, but I don't think it's going to happen.

5. BUNCHA LYIN-ASS HYPOCRITES!!! ARRGGGH!!!
Oh sure sure sure! When it comes to the fine arts and funding for fledgling musicians, dancers, sculptors, painters, etc., it's always, "Let the MARKET decide!!!! Tell those commie pinko weirdos to go out and git a REAL JOB!"

But when it comes to BILLION-DOLLAR sports franchises (that are doing QUITE well on their lonesome, thank you please), all of a sudden these dirty weasels "go liberal".

Did I mention this week how much I hate these people?
