rumor mill on Lee Terry!!!!
There is a rumor he will not be running for reelection to his Congress seat. Does that mean he is thinking of running against Nelson? Between the two, I'll take Nelson.

1. Nelson is not even a "Real Democrat"
I don't even live in the state of Nebraska and i'm saying this. I don't like Nelson cause basically Ben Nelson never supports the Democrats in the Senate always voting againist Democrat backed bills. Earlier this year when the Democrats voted againist most of president bush's judical nominations what did good 'ol ben do? he didn't stand with his party and voted "yea" on all nominations and this also included John Bolton, Bush's nominee to the U.N.

I just don't like Ben Nelson cause he dosen't stand with party.

2. your right
Nelson was a Republican years ago. He wanted to run for Governor, but the Republicans had another candidate. He switched parties and won. But he does have a better voting record than Lee Terry or Hagel.

3. That would be a very interesting race
I think Terry would win honestly. NO ONE likes Ben Nelson and he can be attacked in a million different ways. I won't be too sad to see him go. And *maybe* we can get a dem in Terry's seat.

4. No one likes Ben Nelson?
According to SurveyUSA, Ben Nelson has a 63% approval rating, which is within the margin of Hagel. 63/27 approval/disapproval is a pretty good showing.

5. I think that's deceiving.
He was a "popular" governor and almost lost to a total crackpot like Stenberg in his senate run after getting beat by a carpetbagger like Hagel. I think support for Ben runs thin although he's so vanilla it's hard to hate him. I bet most of those people don't follow politics and just like his name recognition or his big goofy Santa Clause looking face.

6. While I don't completely disagree with this assesment,
your earlier post of "NO ONE" likes him, is ridiculous.

He is a DINO, no doubt about that, but he is very well liked by your average uninformed Nebraskan. I worked for all of his governor and senate campaigns, I've seen first hand how people react to him, he is very well liked by pretty much everyone EXCEPT the true liberals in the state. Unfortunately we are few and far between.

To say his support is thin, I'd agree, but I think it is quite broad so that will make up for it. I'd be shocked if he isn't re-elected.

He's no Exon or Kerrey, but he's the best we got.

7. If that's the best we got
Well then, that sad and pathetic.

I want a man in the senate that is actually a democrat and who will stand with his party, not some guy pretending to be a dem.

vote no for ben nelson come next year.

8. And vote for who?
Edited on Wed Sep-14-05 08:29 PM by NEDem
Stenberg? Terry? Kramer?

I'll take a spineless DINO over a RW fundy, a patsy, or a fat idiot any day of the week.

It's that kind of defeatest attitude that kills Dems in this state. I'll vote for Nelson, but I have no intention of helping him at all this time around.

Like I said, like it or not,he's the best we can hope for this time around, he's all we got.

Maybe if you actually lived here you'd understand how things are in this hole.

9. I live here. I understand. I get so depressed when I realize exactly what
a shithole this place has become since the early 60s when it was a dem state.

But let a democratic idea or two like civil and equal rights become an issue, and the racist, mysoginistic, petty, narrow-mindedness of the assholes in this part of the country comes through loud and clear.

Another big, and I do mean big, problem is the party leadership in this state. They're a bunch of self-absorbed asses who don't even try to make a difference. Sometimes it just doesn't matter if you lose if you fight the battle showing some guts, integrity, and honesty. But that ain't how it's done here. We have some ex-republican who still votes and thinks like a republican for a democratic senator.

10. As far as I'm concerned
Edited on Thu Sep-15-05 08:57 PM by NEDem
by far and away the biggest problem we have in the state is party leadership. The party leaders are so busy pretending to be important that they are forgetting the basics.

I share your frustration with Nelson. I'd love to have Bob Kerrey back, I don't think this state has been the same since he left. Unfortunately if you look at what is lining up against Nelson, we're stuck with him, unless you WANT a fundy, a patsy or a fat idiot representing you in DC. I don't agree with Nelson much of the time, but when you look at the opposition, he's the best of the lot.

What is even worse is when you look at the young "democrats" in this state. I don't see anyone with any real democratic ideals working up the ladder. Maybe someone will surprise me, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

We need someone with Bob Kerrey's leadership and Jim Exon's charisma to step up to the plate and drag this state kicking and screaming into the 21st century, much like the late Frank Morrison had to do.

I could go on and on about the open bigotry in the state, I see and hear it everyday.

Nebraska is nothing but a southern state located just a little bit too far north.

11. I am so done voting for the lesser of evils.
When I was in 6th grade my class participated in a straw poll: McGovern or Nixon. Nixon won by a landslide, as he did in the actual election. I will always remember my teacher's remark, "Yes, sometimes it's a choice between the lesser of two evils."

A freshman republican senator (e.g., Fortenberry) will harm us less than the Depublican who now represents us.

He made sure that the Dems could not exercise the ONLY recourse left to Dems in the Senate. Thank you Ben, there will be no filibuster. John Roberts thanks you as well.

When there is 1 Democrat voting with the Republican block, you better believe that his initials are BN.

I will vote green in 2006.

15. Re: and vote for who?
If Lee Terry runs for the Senate and beats Nelson then the State of Nebraska is in worse shape than I thought. Terry is the epitome of brainwashed by the Republican machines. He is a sick individual. At least with Nelson he votes for the Dems every once in a while.

You're right. Nelson is all we've got in Nebraska. No one else will stand up for us Dems.
