Ben Nelson's new commercial
He's talking about how he cut taxes and how they're going to cut even more. And we're working to eliminate the death tax.

WTF is this BS! I have never seen a campaign where an extremely popular incumbent tries to win by attempting to fool the voters into thinking he is just like the challenger. Why pander to the morons on the Inheritance tax issue? The federal inheritance tax is not going to affect any of the idiots in this state that are all worried about it. If we don't tax Paris Hilton, they're going to come after US for the money. Don't people realize that?!? The only thing that's going to touch your farm is the STATE inheritance tax and you better talk to the GOP controlled unicameral about that.

1. in fact, I wrote him a letter about this
Edited on Sun Jun-11-06 02:13 PM by TheFarseer
and it went something like this:

Dear Senator Nelson, I was very distressed by your recent commercial stating you wanted to cut taxes more and eliminate the "death tax" In the first place we simply cannot cut taxes anymore with our current deficit. I realize you are running for re-election in a conservative state, but I have never in my life seen an extremely popular incumbent trying to get re-elected by attempting to fool the voters into thinking that he is just like the challenger. Why, instead of pandering the those who are uneducated on the estate tax, don't you try to do something constructive to help people understand the issue? Repealing this tax is the kind of thing that will help factory farms that hurt farmers much more than an estate tax that will never touch the vast, vast majority of farmers. If a family that farms the whole county has to sell off a farm to pay estate taxes, what's the big deal? Now maybe two people have a chance to have a successful farming operation. Furthermore, if we repeal the estate tax, then instead of going after Paris Hilton for the money, the government will have to go after everyone else - including people like me struggling to get by on 25K a year. I am appalled that you think we sent you to Washington to cut Paris Hilton's taxes. Please don't sell out Nebraska like you did on CAFTA and the bankruptcy bill. I urge you to help Nebraska working families by voting to keep the estate tax. Please take the advice of someone who voted for you in the past and plans on voting for you in the future: stand up for the people and not the powerful.

4. I've made up my mind
after working For Ben on both Governor's races and both senate races, I cannot and will not be voting for him in Novemeber. I don't care if Ricketts wins because in this instance there really is absolutely no difference between the two. I won't vote for RIcketts either, I'll write myself in.

I have lost all respect for Nelson, I cannot justify voting for someone who doesn't represent me, doesn't want to represent me and doesn't care that he isn't representing me. Screw Ben Nelson. I can't vote for him again.

I just can't do it.

5. We need 50 D's and the sure Independent to take control

That alone is the reason to vote for Ben.

6. That's ridiculous
When was the last time Nelson voted with the other D's. What makes you think he'll start now? Nope, he's just a Republican with a Dem label. I just can't do it.

7. Harry Reid would become the majority leader in the Senate

So reelecting Nelson is very important. The Dems not the Reps would decide what comes to the floor for debate, votes, etc... Very important to keep Nelson and pick up several other seats (could happen) this Nov.
