McCaskill supports public plan: Senator will listen to Ozarkers at Monday town hall
Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill will listen to concerns from Ozarkers on Monday about a proposed government-run health insurance plan during town hall meetings in West Plains and Springfield.

But the state's junior senator has her mind made up about the controversial plan that has sparked an emotional national debate: She supports the public option.

McCaskill also says that doesn't mean Congress will ultimately approve such a plan this fall.

"Anybody who thinks it's a foregone conclusion, they must know something I don't know," McCaskill told the News-Leader. "We don't even know yet what we're going to be voting on."

McCaskill's vote on the issue is seen as crucial as Democratic leaders try to court moderates who are walking the line with voters upset with the federal government's increasing role in the economy...

At 11:30 a.m. Monday, doors open for McCaskill's 12:30 p.m. town hall meeting on health care issues at the Gillioz Theater, 325 Park Central East.

The Springfield visit will be McCaskill's 10th and final public town hall meeting this month in the state. No other member of Missouri's 11-member congressional delegation has had as many open forums as McCaskill during the August recess.
