Local peacenik on ABC's Wife Swap tonight
Friends for a Non-Violent Word is a Twin Cities non-profit. http://www.fnvw.org /

FNVW Member and Peacemaker on ABC's "Wife Swap"

Check local listings

Mina Leierwood, FNVW member, peacemaker and daughter of Frank and Raquel
Wood of Prospect Hill Friends Meeting, will appear on the ABC reality show
"Wife Swap" tomorrow night at 9pm Central.

The situation: peace mom replacing the mother of a Kentucky military family
based near Fort Knox and military mom fitting in to Twin Cities peace
community.

Don't miss it! Below is a teaser from Mina herself...

Dear Friends,

In case you don't know, our episode of Wife Swap will air on Wednesday, Mar
2, ABC, 9 pm central. Want more info? Go to Leierwood.com.

I just saw the upcoming Wife Swap episode yesterday, and I'm happy with it.
The good news is that the peace vs. war positions are drawn really clearly,
and ultimately, that is what this is about. I think they were kind to me,
representing me as more level headed and less kooky than I am. My son Dan
was the most radical and extreme of the bunch. My husband and Avram play
minor roles, because they were less confrontational. Also guest appearances
by Ralph Hilgendorf, Jan Elftmann, June Moon, Randy Schutt, Coffee John and
other Peaceniks.

Spread the word - peaceniks don't often get this kind of primetime airplay!

Blessed be, mina ++++

2. I don't normally watch this crap - but I will make a point to watch
tonight - we need all the exposure we can get, and I'm sure the "moral rePukes" watch this kind of show. After all, they don't care about real issues in our country, and the MSM certainly doesn't let the truth be known, so, if this helps - I say GREAT!! I'm watching!!

4. Me-- and many other lefties I know.
I hate to admit it, but I like these sordid reality shows. It's like a guilty pleasure.

If it exposes more people to what modern-day peace activists are all about, I'm all for it.

Maybe it will destroy some stereotypes and prove that we're really more alike than we are different.

5. Actually, as far as TeeeVeee goes....
the "Wife Swap" and "Trading Spouses" shows are kind of interesting. Generally, they match families with opposite views: A super-Rethuglican, McMansion-dwelling, golfing, fundamentalist suburban mom trading households with a lesbian mom; Super-neatfreak, lefty mom (also from Minneapolis) going to a messy, country, repub household in Tennessee; Healthy, kind, adoptive mother of eight trades with a lazy, boorish mother who doesn't like her own kids.

Most of the time there is some kind of positive change in one or both families, usually that a dad realizes that he doesn't spend enough time with his kids. It's a voyeuristic entertainment, but after a peek into someone else's family, I can't help but step back and get a little perspective on my own.

8. It was a good program! I'm glad you gave us a heads up.
Really showed the sharp difference between liberals and neocons.

One of the most interesting segments to me was when the southern neighbors were over for the discussion on war and peace. They looked liked they were in such PAIN. I'm so glad we have more independent thinkers here in the great blue state of Minnesota.

Mina was really brave to do that show.

9. It was good. Ch 5 had a segment on their 10:00 news
Hubbard's Hillbillies did a fair job on the 10:00 news, too, on their piece on Mina. They also stated that the "confrontations" between their son Dan and the other wife were "embellished" for the TV cameras.

I only wish Dan would have shown a little more decorum and less anger when confronting the other woman. But then again, he is 17-- and I know I was an obnoxious know-it-all little @$$ at that age, too.
