State senator Scott Newman won't meet with you if you supported
his opponent. Aren't they elected to represent ALL of the people? I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

(snip)
A tipster called today to say that the legislative assistant for my state senator, Scott Newman, sent an email to the Minnesota Nurses Association, saying that he would not be meeting with representatives of any group that had endorsed his opponent, Hal Kimball.

1. Uncalled for by Senator Newman
Everyone in the House and Senate represent EVERYONE, no exceptions. It is part of the responsibilities of the office for Newman to meet with this group.

3. While I agree
that this move makes the senator look bad does he HAVE to meet with them?

If representatives with the NRA or MCCL wished to meet with Senator Dibble, does he HAVE to meet with them?

4. As part of the profession he should
and hear them out. Being a public official means you should have a ear to all constituents. You represent everyone, not your elected base.

2. Any constituents he refuses to meet with should file a complaint with the ethics committee.
It may go nowhere - the committee chairs are all Republicans now, but it's worth getting it on the record.

5. Update: Newman backpedals & blames it on his aide. Typical.

6. The Overzealous Aide excuse
Not sure how much of that is true but at least he has publicly stated he will see everyone.
