---------------------------------

*Why We're Protesting on the 6th Anniversary*

March 21 marks 6 years since the brutal U.S. invasion of Iraq. It comes at a
time when there are massive hopes all over the world that President Obama
will reverse Bush’s foreign policy and inaugurate a new era of peace.

Yet even as Obama promises to close down Guantanamo Bay and vows to remove
combat troops from Iraq over the next 19 months, he has issued orders to
send another 17,000 U.S. troops to Afghanistan to continue the bloody
occupation there, while also expanding bombings in Pakistan. Further, 50,000
troops will remain in Iraq indefinitely even under Obama’s withdrawal plan
(For more, see Jon Stewart's clip "Mess O'Potamia: The Iraq War is
Over?"-
http://mrzine.monthlyreview.org/stewart130309.html). And the U.S. will
continue to spend more on its military than the rest of the world combined,
and $4 billion a year on recruiting youth, who have fewer and fewer options
in this time of economic crisis, as cannon fodder for these unjust wars.

We say: not another dollar, not another day, not another death for the wars
for oil and empire in Iraq and Afghanistan!

It is our job to pressure the politicians to end the occupations of Iraq and
Afghanistan – leaving not a single soldier or military contractor behind –
and redirect the money currently spent on the military toward human needs,
like providing decent jobs, housing, and a good education for all. On March
21st, we are taking to the streets to show our solidarity with the people of
Iraq and Afghanistan and all those around the world who want peace and a
better world, free from the fear of having bombs rain down upon their
families courtesy of the world’s largest military superpower.
