TO THE EDITOR:
(EDITOR'S NOTE: Staff writer Jennifer Edwards did attempt to reach Mr. Olson regarding the July 19 story. He did not return calls.)
We live in an age of information which comes in a daily flood. With many bits of information competing for consumption, it's amazing we can sometimes be left uninformed. Thank you for this editorial page.
When I announced my previous intentions to seek re-election for the MN House, I further stated I would not be working for the endorsement due to session responsibilities. This proved very fruitful as we were blessed with good success on the House Floor during the convention week.
Our efforts to opt out of the Federal No Child Left Behind regulatory grip on education passed in the House but not the Senate. The first step to consider nuclear power for the next Minnesota power plant also passed, and became law.
This was not reported on. Nor was I interviewed for the article that was written on July 19th about my not seeking re-election.
When the deadline for filing passed and after serving eight legislative terms while never once thinking that I would serve another, I felt very content and blessed. This has been a great term with good success; difficult times really can work for good.
Through all eight victorious elections never have I felt responsible to win, but only to try and do what I'm supposed to do. It is not ourselves or our country that we need to restore faith in; it is God whom our country was founded under that is looking for our hope and trust.
No other candidates have had substantive interaction with me on the issues to know why my running is so important. My wife and I feel confident that when the truth is known after all the misinformation and politically malicious lies our efforts will be appreciated.
Mark Olson
Candidate for State Senate
Big Lake, MN
