Group pushing to recall Randy Kelly
http://www.startribune.com/stories/462/4913861.html

In the days since St. Paul Mayor Randy Kelly announced his decision to buck his DFL Party and endorse President Bush, pundits have been pondering and politicians have been postulating. Now, a small group of St. Paul citizens says it wants to take action.

"We want to recall Mayor Kelly," said Lara Duddingston, a self-described "common person" who gathered with a group of 10 friends, neighbors and relatives Wednesday night to start the process.

With just one of St. Paul's 119 precincts voting for Bush in 2000, Duddingston says the mayor is out of step with the people who elected him and therefore is not acting in the city's best interests.

"We're serious," she said. "We feel betrayed."

Kelly's campaign manager didn't return a phone call. The mayor's spokeswoman, Laura Mortenson, said Kelly would wait until a petition was filed before making any comments.

The article also describes what the St Paul City Charter requirements for recall are.

1. Here's how St Paulites and friends of St Paulites can get involved!
"We are seriously organizing this, and on Monday we plan to start gathering signatures," says Lara Duddingston, a stay-at-home St. Paul mom who is one of the people behind the effort.

"This is the only way that we, as Democrats in St. Paul, can offer a different voice," she said. "There are 119 precincts in St. Paul, and George Bush only won one of them in 2000."

The group is finalizing language for a petition. They will have to gather 11,911 signatures, or 20 percent of the number of votes cast for mayor in 2001. Political observers think they're unlikely to meet that threshold, although the mayor's opponents have registered the "recallrandy.org" Internet domain name and set up an e-mail address at [email protected].

5. ATTENTION ST PAULITES: The petition signatures are now being collected
Please contact recallrandy.org if you would like to give the Coleman/Kelly Machine a good swift kick in the pants. Get your signature on a petition. Spread the word.

Visit recallrandy.org for phone numbers, meetup locations and other info.

A Wellstone political strategist has been hired.

This is going to happen and I expect it to happen pretty fast.

3. I live in St. Paul, and I'll sign whatever petition you've got
The man may not even have beaten Benanav fairly, is woefully out-of-touch with his constituents, and should be ashamed of himself.

7. Randy "Benedict Arnold" Kelly
Turncoat supreme!

The crooked SOB wants to steal our tax dollars in order to build a $450+ million baseball stadium for billionaire Carl Pohlad. As with all Republican or reich wing thinking political creepos, Kelly cannot be satisfied with the $ 2 trillion in corporate welfare that the wealthy elitists got from Bush.

Kelly wants more, just like his predecessor Norm Coleman who stole our money to build his Xcel Center hockey arena.

No wonder they are called RePIGnicans!

9. Worst thing about this for Saint Paul:
There are Saint Paul residents serving in the National Guard and Reserve.

By supporting Bush, Kelly is supporting the unnecessary and badly planned war in Iraq, and thus supporting the needless deaths of Saint Paul residents.

The mayor is supposed to advocate FOR the people of the city, not advocate for their deaths.
