G4G Talking Points for 08/30
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 30 (69 Days until Victory 2006)

Protecting Michigan Pocketbooks: Governor Granholm announced funds to help install or convert gas pumps to biodiesel and E85 ethanol fuel. Alternative energies will help reduce gas prices for consumers and break our independence on foreign oil in the long run.

Fighting for Real People vs. Protecting the Powerful: The Governor has doubled the number of gas pump inspectors in Michigan to protect the wallets and pocketbooks of Michigan citizens, and she has called on President Bush to provide relief to consumers by capping outrageous oil company profits – but President Bush and Dick DeVos have consistently sided with powerful special interests over Michigan citizens.

The Real DeVos Plan: The MDP yesterday released Dick DeVos’ real plan for Michigan. Click here to download a copy and read the details…http://www.michigandems.com/082906prs.html

What’s Inside:
- DeVos Economic Policy: Bush Economics and Sending Jobs to China
- DeVos Social Policy: Extremism for Michigan
- DeVos Tax Policy: Corporations Over Real People
- DeVos Education Policy: Giving Up on Public Schools
- DeVos Health Care Policy: Don’t Get Sick, Everyone for Themselves
- DeVos Leadership Style: Duck, Delay and DeLay

Headlines from Around the State

Associated Press: Granholm announces fund to help add E85, biodiesel pumps
Gov. Jennifer Granholm announced Tuesday that the state is setting aside $250,000 in federal funds to help service station owners offer alternative fuels. During a news conference at a Chevrolet dealership in Lansing, the governor said she hopes the new grants will lead to 1,000 pumps being installed or converted by 2008. That would increase the number of pumps now offering biodiesel fuel or E85, a mix of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline, by 20 percent… "Ethanol and biodiesel production facilities are coming on line. We've cut taxes on the purchase of these fuels, and now, thanks to this grant program, we will greatly expand access. Expanding access and use will help reduce the cost of gas for all of us," Granholm said.

Associated Press: Michigan's Web site wins top award
The official Web site of Michigan state government has been named the best state government Web portal in the country by the California-based Center for Digital Government. The Center for Digital Government is recognized as a leading national research and advisory institute on information technology, according to the Michigan Department of Information Technology, which oversees state Web sites and state services and products offered over the Web. "We set a goal to make state government more accessible for citizens and friendlier for businesses, and this award shows the great progress we have made," Gov. Jennifer Granholm said Tuesday in a news release.

1. Thanks
for posting the talking points, some goos stuff.

Sorry if I'm bringing up old news, but this doesn't surprise from what I know of Dick's friends and family. I read that his brother-in-law is the head of Blackwater, not surprisingly making a lot of money through their mercenary work thanks to Dick's friends in the Bush administration. Apparently DeVos went down to NC to tour the Blackwater facility and since Dick won't disclose his tax information who knows if or how much of a financial stake he and the rest of the family have in Blackwater. Just another tidbit I wanted to share that adds to the already shady past and present of DeVos. We only have to deal with him for 69 more days, thank God.

2. I so hope you're right
I may have heard about the Blackwater connection, but I'm not sure. Thanks for posting it, though. The more ammunition everyone has, the better.
