Support the UAW strikers
MEACWI urges all anti-war, foreclosure moratorium, and social justice activists to show your support for the heroic UAW workers on strike at American Axle & Manufacturing Co. by joining MECAWI members each Sunday on the picket line.

The striking workers are resisting American Axle's demand of a $10 an hour pay cut to only $14 an hour, and the reduction of most benefits. For more info on the strike and how to help, see Strikers tell American Axle: Show us your profits!, and Support Striking American Axle Workers. / and

What: Picket line support

Where: Gather at UAW Local 235, 2140 Holbrook Street (at St. Aubin), in Hamtramck.

When: 1 PM, each Sunday while the strike is on.

If you can, please bring donations of bottled water, firewood, coffee, hot chocolate, tea, hot dogs, and other easy to eat foods.

1. CEO compensation, off-shoring, union-busting ... a litany of abuses.
Richard Dauch, president of American Axle, is floating on a golden parachute. His total 2007 compensation is $9,118,649, which includes a $1.34 million salary, a $3.9 million bonus, $2.56 million in stock awards, $1.2 million in an incentive/retirement plan, and $1 million in other compensation. Dauch is president of the National Association of Manufacturers. /

2. I hope they are able to stand strong
My heart is with our hard working brothers and sisters in Hamtramck. :toast:

If I were anywhere downstate I would probably join them.
