Michigan shouldn't recognize homosexuality, says Michigan Republicans
What the f*ck is wrong with these people. A bill that is being considered by the Michigan congress passed the state house of reps, but is likely to fail in the state senate because it is the feeling of the state senate, which is controlled by the Republicans, that the state should not officially recognize Homosexuality and they do not deserve any protections from bullying, harassment, verbal assault, or physical assault.

That is right folks, an entire segment of our population is one step closer to being considered third class citizens. Even conservative estimates put the GLBT population at 10% of the total population. 10% allowed to be harassed and assaulted with no means for legal recourse, no protections, nothing.

The bill being considered focuses on bullying in High Schools and is supposed to help create an atmosphere for all that is conducive of learning where no one has to worry about being subjected to physical harm on a daily basis.

I have got to tell you that this is a brilliant idea. If these things had been around and if I had grown up in an atmosphere where it was okay to be open and to discuss things, I would not have been so terminally depressed during my entire high school years. If their had been some kind of feeling of security or safety instead of the constant reminders of what could and most likely would happen to me as a gay person, my productivity and quality of life would have sky rocketed. Maintaining a positive level of self-esteem is hard enough to do as a teenager let alone if you are gay or even if you are just unsure about your sexuality.

The words coming out of the Republicans in Lansing is alarming. It proves that they have no desire to promote a healthy society and instead want to create a society of elitist that reign down upon a bulk of subjects that have all been deemed third class citizens.

It is also worth pointing out that in a past issue of Between The Lines, Michigan's GLBT weekly, Ann Clouter called John Edwards a faggot and then went on to state that she does not understand why the GLBT population doesn't support the Republican Party.

Gee I wonder Ann. You f**king, stupid, piece of sh*t, c**t, Republican. (Sorry about the strength of my language on that one I know how vulgar the word Republican is but when I get upset I tend get a little vulgar.)

1. How can you not "recognise" homosexuality?
This isn't a government that you can refuse to acknowledge, it's a sexual orientation: Guy fucking another guy, that's homosexuality (or possibly bisexuality but that's another topic) or is this like the anti-evolution crowd who believe that if you ignore something, it doesn't exist?

The Republicans are America's party of "Fear, Failure, and Hate".

3. I figure that people like this were bullies and feel that they had every right to be
It's not just that they want to be able to scream "faggot" at people (not just gays, but also nerds and anyone else they don't like), and they want their kids to be able to do it, too.

A good school doesn't need a law to stop bullying. My schools never tolerated any kind of physical fighting on grounds-it was off grounds that most of the fighting or beatin up went on. I guess having a law will give the police the ability to intervene in public, off school grounds.

5. Hear, Hear!
I, from this day forward, refuse to acknowledge the existence of Michigan's Republican Party!

The evolving mindset of our state is really starting to depress me. Why, in God's name would anyone stay here anymore?

6. Michigan shot itself in the foot with Proposal 2 in 2004
They wonder why so many talented and skilled people are leaving the state? Companies don't want to operate in a climate where they have trouble attracting workers, either.

7. Why not just pass a bill making homosexuality a capital offense
subject to torture and public execution? I mean, since you're getting medieval already, why not put on the full costume, GOP?
