Breaking: Boston loses Revolutionary War
source: http://www.boston.com/news/globe/magazine/articles/2005/04/03/a_monumental_haul/

Switching Sides

A friend from out of town came to visit me over Labor Day weekend. We were headed downtown on the Red Line, but there was a delay at Kendall Square. Everyone had to get off the train and board a shuttle bus, which would drop us off at the next T stop. While we stood on the sidewalk, enjoying the sunshine and waiting for the shuttle, I overheard a man, apparently a tourist, grumbling to his wife: "This is ridiculous. Boston is so stupid. No wonder they lost the Revolutionary War." My friend and I could barely contain our mirth. I can only hope the confused couple was headed for a walk on the Freedom Trail.

3. I got one just as good.
At a connivence store friday. Got some bottle water. Red neck kid about 22
started saying do not buy French water. I asked him what country had the 2nd
largest Army helping us in Afghanistan after 9/11? When i told him it was France
all he could say "Well they spit in our faces. They would not help in Iraq" I offered
to drive him to an army recruiting station when he started w/ "Go Bush."

14. And proud of it!?!

That's the hardest thing I have dealing with. I don't know how to talk to someone who thinks just being well informed and thoughtful is suspect somehow. "elists" or even "unpatriotic".

Burkina Faso or Bahrain.

5. Um... a British Tourist?
perhaps... or maybe he was being sarcastic. I mean that is not on the scale of ignorance, anyone knowing that Boston was at least the area where "the first shots were fired" and the first sizeable coastal city occupied by the colonist rebels would not be confused on this point. Me thinks he was trying to be funny with sarcasm.

6. Well, I'll be ding danged
I thought all of the States/colonies which existed at that time were involved in the Revolution, not just one coastal city. And I had the impression that we eventually won the war. Now I understand why Bush is referred to sometimes as "King George". I learn something new every day.

7. If it weren't for Bostonians, we'd still be singing "God Save the Queen"
speaking with British accents, and having tea at 4 PM. Did you get a feeling if they were from the US, and if so, what region?
