The Boston Police Department Seeks Victims That Donated Money

Today, Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at approximately 2:30pm, members of the Boston Police Department’s Youth Violence Strike force conducted a motor vehicle stop of two individuals operating in the area of 555 Columbia Road, Dorchester.

As a result of the stop, officers discovered that the two had been illegally soliciting funds from various businesses under the guise of being police officers. This conclusion was a result of several items located within their possession including: a fraudulent notebook with “Boston Police Patrolman’s Association” letterhead, a journal of numerous businesses that have donated in the past, a sum of United States Currency and interviews of the suspects and victim business owners.

One local Boston business owner informed officers that he had been donating to one of the men for approximately Six (6) years. He went on to state that he was told by the suspect that he was a Boston Police Officer and the donation would go to the Boston Police Patrolman’s Union.

It was also learned that the two would first solicit potential businesses over the phone and make arraignments to pick up the donation. In some cases, the suspects supplied victims with bumper stickers and other police related items in return for donations.
Any business owner or individual who believes they may have been victimized by the two men photographed below are urged to call the Boston Police Special Investigations Unit at (617)-343-5200.

Community members with information related to this investigation are urged to contact BPD Investigators. Individuals who wish to remain anonymous can do so by calling the CrimeStoppers Hotline at (617)-494-TIPS. You may also text the word ‘TIP’ to CRIME (27463).

The individual on the left is Stephen Sousa, 41, of Everett, MA. The individual on the right is Joseph Roche, 53, of Wakefield, MA.
