BOSTON --

A new ad campaign launched by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority aims to crack
down on gropers who harass female passengers on crowded subways and buses.

NewsCenter 5's Shiba Russell reported that the MBTA is unveiling its latest posters that show a
young woman standing on a bus or train squeezed between two larger, anonymous bodies with the
words "Rub against me and I'll expose you."

The MBTA is hoping to stop gropers from attacking and wants to increase awareness of the crime.

The new ads are already appearing on the Red line.

There are three different posters that will be displayed around the Hub encouraging sexual assault victims to report any incidents.

The most common reports are among female riders who complain about being groped, rubbed or grabbed.

"I've definitely been groped on the T. I think most women have," one female rider said.

"If everyone's in the T together and it's really crowded, how can you get an actual, like, prosecute someone for doing something like that? You should just punch 'em in the face," another female rider said.

Up on the Green Line platform at Park Street Station, Cheryl Liu and Ginny Tseng discussed being women riding the T.

"When it gets crowded, I like my personal space," said Liu, a 27-year-old Emerson College student. "I'll back off if people get too close."

"I'll use the bag, the bag-in-between" maneuver, Tseng replied, demonstrating how she uses her stuffed shoulder bag to create a barrier between herself and anyone else.

But Liu said she wasn't sure how far she would go to protect herself if someone breached that barrier.

A little More...

I used to ride the MBTA to high school daily and that never happened to me but I guess
there's a few creepy guys targeting women nowadays. I hope they catch the creeps!

1. It happens, and it's nothing new.
But this kind of thing wasn't really talked about before. I happen to know of more than one incident of that ilk that happened over 20 years ago. Though I wouldn't be surprised if it happens more frequently today.

2. I hope they get these people too
I still remember a drunk guy coming up to me on the MBTA to tell me (in a drunken slurred voice) about the 3rd nipple he had. I thought that was bad enough!
