Wellesley -

Two weeks after his body was found at his Jamaica Plain home, Richard W. Daly’s friends are still working to find him a final resting place.

Daly, who recently passed away at the age of 71, had represented Wellesley as a Republican in the state legislature from 1968 to 1972, and also worked for years as reporter and columnist for the Boston Herald Traveler. An only child, Daly never married and had no immediate relatives in the area.

Daly’s friend Roy Switzler, who had known Daly since childhood and who served as the Wellesley Republicans’ finance chairman when Daly first ran for state office, said that he was still hoping to find a relative who could claim Daly’s body, which is currently at a Boston morgue. Failing that, Switzler said he hoped that Daly’s friends could claim his body and then have it cremated and interred at the Woodlawn Cemetery. According to Switzler, both of Daly’s parents are buried at Woodlawn.

“We’ve found no next of kin, and I’ve come up with dead ends in my search so far,” said Switzler. “I’ve been in contact with people who knew him at the legislature, and they’ve all been helpful, but we haven’t turned anything up yet.”
