WRKO Radio goes after the racist market
RKO goes after the racist market

Nothing like jokes about blacks to liven up the deadening Tom Finneran show.

But Elias seems just a little skeptical:

... McGuirk is an brutal little thug with what my mother would call "a cheap mouth" and a grating New York accent. For that reason alone I don't think he will last long if WRKO hires him. ...

1. What a horrible idea. I've listened to the Finneran show. On a good day, all I can call it is
uninspiring. On a bad day, which is most of them, it's just grating and idiotic. The callers are, in Boston vernacular, "REEEE-TAHHHHHDS." You wonder how they find jobs, some of them.

But this is NOT the way to fix that. Hopefully it will just be an audition.

Pulling the string to the blog-article: http://chimesatmidnight.blogspot.com/2007/05/bernard-mcguirk-is-comin-to-boston.html

Bernard McGuirk is a comin' to Boston...
the Boston Globe reports that Don Imus former producer-flunkey is coming to Boston to audition as Tom Finneran's co-host on WRKO.
Geez, RKO must be desperate if they are dragging in such a notorious New Yorker to prop up the Former House Speaker's morning yakfest....I don't think Finneran will last long as it's McGuirk's inflammatory nonsense that got Don Imus sh*tcanned.

WRKO cancels appearance by McGuirk

By Carolyn Johnson, Globe Staff | May 21, 2007

After several days of criticism for inviting a former Don Imus producer
to its airwaves, WRKO cancelled an appearance by Bernard McGuirk
today.

McGuirk was slated to begin a three-day stint Wednesday as an
on-air guest of former House speaker Tom Finneran -- an appearance
that station officials said last week was designed as a try-out
for the man who first said the word “ho” in the on-air conversation
in which Imus referred to the champion Rutgers University women's
basketball team as “nappy headed hos.”

George Regan, a spokesman for Entercom Communications, the parent
company of WRKO, declined to say why the invitation was rescinded.
But over the weekend, a 1997 interview on CBS' “60 Minutes”
surfaced in which Imus was quoted using a racial slur to say that
McGuirk was hired for his show to tell jokes about blacks.

"After careful deliberation, (WRKO) decided that it would not be
appropriate for Bernie to be a co-host at WRKO at this time,"
Regan said.
