do we still pay people not to plant?

Do we still pay people not to plant crops? Do we pay any farmer in Maine not to plant corn? we hear all these cries about corn shortages yet we are still paying farmers in some states not to plant corn.
I wonder how much the govt. loses from taxes when we use corn for ethanol? We seem to be torn between the right screaming drill and explore or the left who say use solar or wind and the middle who say use a percentage of crops for ethanol . the result seems to be a mixture of confusion which slows the progression of weaning ourselves from fossil fuel.
maybe if we can push our local and state governments to wean itself from as much fossil fuel as possible by addressing each area of energy expended.
adjust the idling of police cars, school buses lowering the thermostats in public buildings
adding solar panels on public buildings etc. streamline the hours to save on energy.
It won't happen overnight nor will it happen at all if we don't act.
here's one of my pet peeves that wastes a lot of fuel; a string of traffic lights that are out of sequence. prime examples=cooks corner area in brunswick, rte196 in topsham,
center street in Auburn, any where in Bangor! thousands of gallons of fuel wasted daily.
talk about contributing to air pollution. we have got to do better.
